Somatic therapy engages both the mind & the body.
Reaching out can be insanely difficult and vulnerable at times, I get it. Come in, have some tea, see if the connection feels right for you. I'm here to offer my heart, love, guidance, resources and a safe cozy space for sharing and moving through what may be stuck or needing extra attention. I am here to wade through the gunk with you and also to help you see through and beyond it. At times that means I might direct and re-direct you away from the story, away from the chatter and the thoughts and into your body, connecting with your nervous system, with your sensations, with your authentic self.

Having experienced the healing power of somatic therapy and IFS first hand, I know how important it is to access the body's wisdom when healing the psychology of the whole person.
Adverse or traumatic experiences can be stored in our bodies and in our unconscious/subconscious minds, driving our behaviors and affecting our natural impulses that allow us to thrive. My clients seek freedom from out-dated mental and bodily reactions derived from these past experiences and/or traumatic events. They want their choice restored when making decisions, for cultivating and sustaining relationships, and in creating a meaningful life.

Drawing from whatever strategies might be required: talk therapy, somatic strategies, Ketamine-assisted psychotherapy and others, I'll help you de-identify with outdated identities, beliefs and views and remove the "charge" from specific events.
It’s hard being a human! And sometimes we need help figuring things out. Each of us desires contentment and fulfillment in our lives, but it's hard to access when we don't know what we don't know: what's really in the way?, and why does it keep showing up?what can I DO about this situation?, and who am I? These questions become increasingly loud during major life events, such as divorce, death, marriage, a career change, etc. We ALL experience this pain and confusion, but the good news is, you're not alone.

We also build on your innate and somatic resources, to help you stay strong, open, and resilient during hard times.
Traumatic experiences and childhood trauma can have devastating effects. Relational wounds cut deep and can affect our sense of self, and our relations, in pervasive ways. Now is the time to let our experiences make us kinder, wiser, stronger. We take what hurts and find ways of being with it, organically and gently. Our bodies hold both the wounds and our healing powers in the ways we breathe, move, and hold ourselves. Noticing sensations, impulses, posture and gestures opens doors to healing from adverse experiences, whether recent, long ago, or current, and to new ways of moving through life, in healthy, open, empowered ways.

I have a Master’s degree in Transpersonal Counseling, and I provide sliding-scale, mindfulness-based, somatic, and trauma-informed in-person & online-therapy.
Let’s be real. These are dark times, and uncertainty abounds. Old wounds may be coming to the surface, and the thought of facing them may feel downright terrifying……It IS terrifying. I believe that these moments are opportunities for us to learn, accept, and grow in our capacity to be Compassionate with ourselves, and with one another. This is how Transformational Healing occurs. If you are struggling with anxiety, depression, anger issues, relationships with substances, or existential dread (perhaps all the above), YOU ARE NOT ALONE.

Somatic Therapists

How does somatic therapy work?

Somatic therapy is a form of treatment that focuses on how the body and mind are interconnected. In this approach, physical symptoms are addressed because they may in fact signal emotional distress. Somatic therapists combine mindfulness, talk therapy, breathwork, yoga, dance, and physical manipulations of the body to help patients become more attuned to what their body is telling them.

Is EMDR a somatic therapy?

EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a form of somatic therapy, as it incorporates mental and physical principles. EMDR involves remembering a traumatic experience while allowing one’s eyes to track a side-to-side visual stimulus from a therapist. This lateral eye movement is believed to diminish the painful power of the memory so that it can be discussed with a therapist.

Is somatic therapy evidence-based?

Somatic therapy has been researched and studied, and some forms of somatic therapy are found to be effective in treating a wide range of conditions. Because somatic therapy encompasses many techniques, some, such as EMDR and meditation, have been studied more than others.

What is somatic trauma therapy?

Somatic trauma therapy is based on the idea that when people experience trauma, they can become stuck in the “freeze” part of a “fight, flight, or freeze” response. In this state, trauma can manifest itself both mentally and physically—through tension in the muscles, anxiety, and stress. Popular forms of somatic trauma therapy include EMDR, sensorimotor therapy, and somatic experiencing.
