I believe that in addition to biology, we are each a product of our environment, social context, relationships, and life experiences. Therapy is an opportunity to explore these experiences, their impact on us, and recognize the pieces of life that are within our control. Through therapy, I support my clients in re-gaining a sense of agency over their lives and relationships, and ultimately increasing feelings of self-worth, meaning, and happiness.

I believe deeply in the power of relationships and in the human capacity for healing. The therapeutic relationship is a powerful force that can lead to lasting and intentional ways of understanding yourself and helping you get back on your path to leading a fulfilling life. Whether you are struggling with anxiety, depression, trauma, attachment injuries, or simply want to understand your inner experience better, you are welcome just as you are.

We all want to feel confident, balanced and "happy." The reality is we get stuck, confused, and unsure at times. Soon the frustration, hurt, doubt, worry, sadness, self-blame, or loneliness settles in. We want to feel that we have a choice. A choice that will make things better whether it is for ourselves, our relationship, or our children. I am here to listen to you, support you and help you find the answers you need to create your path forward.

We all want to feel that we are in control, alive and balanced. The reality is we can get stuck, confused, and in need of help. My priority is to help you achieve YOUR goals in a way that resonates with who you are, your beliefs, and with your values. I have extensive years of clinical, research, and assessment experience and will provide evidence-based treatment in a supportive, accepting, and collaborative relationship.

I am a licensed professional counselor in New Jersey who works with adults, adolescents, children, couples, and families. I work to meet each person where they are and be inclusive, accessible, and supportive of all. I have extensive experience with families and children in crisis. I primarily use a person-centered approach to let each person lead the therapeutic process, but include many techniques and approaches to best meet the needs of each person. I have been a client too, so I know therapy can be hard work and scary at first, but also, can bring profound relief and change, and one of the best things we can do for ourselves.

Sandplay Therapists

What problems are best treated with sandplay therapy?

Research has examined this therapy’s utility in young people and found positive results. It has been shown to be useful for those who suffer from autism, attention deficit disorder, anxiety, and or aggressive behavior. Children who have suffered abuse, neglect, or trauma have also seen improvement through this therapy. Abused children are often fearful and anxious about their safety, making verbal communication more difficult.

Is sandplay therapy suitable for children and teenagers?

Children and adolescents are good candidates for sandplay therapy. Many kids and teens are often unable to form and communicate their thoughts, let alone the emotions they are experiencing. Through this play therapy, they will hopefully make connections between what they feel inside and how the world works outside.

Is sandplay suitable for adults?

This type of therapy can be useful for adults who have difficulties expressing themselves. People who have suffered neurological changes after a brain injury or because of a traumatic event might be good candidates for this therapy. In fact, anything that has had an effect on the brain, such as substance abuse, can make non-verbal sandplay a valuable option.

Does sandplay therapy work?

There have been studies on the effectiveness of sandplay therapy, and it appears to improve difficult behaviors in children. It may also enhance self-esteem and lessen feelings of physical anxiety as well as hypersensitivity. This type of therapy is based on non-verbal communication and may feel less threatening to the individual.
