Sometimes we develop ways of thinking, acting, or feeling, that aren't useful to us anymore. Old patterns can leave us dissatisfied, depressed, unfulfilled, nervous, or disconnected from others. If you're struggling in some way, I can offer guidance to help you find your way back to yourself. The therapy I provide is grounded in compassion, non-judgment, and curiosity. Because we each have our own way of healing, my approach is integrative and tailored to your unique needs.

Life can push us beyond our capacity to manage well. Therapy is a vehicle that can help you find healing and balance. I work with the whole of you. I nurture your spirituality which I believe is the root source of healing. As you more fully embody your integrated self, anxiety and depression can subside. A feeling of well-being arises, you become more open and can engage more authentically in your relationships. I embrace non-dual philosophy affirming our interdependence with the unified field which, when attuned to, naturally generates a deep sense of connectedness. Our work together can bring you to a new paradigm of living.

I am here for you, be it heartbreak, difficult relationships, concerns about substance use, past or currant traumatic experiences, anxiety, depression, or just feeling stuck, as if you keep walking in to quicksand and unable to move forward. Life just isn't working for you at this point, and you know it can be better. The issues you are facing may make you feel like a failure but you are not. These issues are simply a "call" to look deeper for what is needed for your continued development, or what Jung calls your individuation. Your unique journey to finding your authentic self.

If you suffer from anxiety, mood swings, unsatisfying relationships, loss, depression, or other patterns or consequences of developmental trauma that interfere with your ability to be your "true self" (and true to yourself), I would love to support you in becoming more internally resourced and freeing yourself from the negative impact of these debilitating patterns. Having previously been a divorce mediator for 20 years, I am passionate about working more deeply to assist individuals and couples in developing more healthy relationships and more life-giving beliefs, self-concepts, and experiences. Change is possible.

You may be noticing that you are struggling with the stress and anxiety that life brings. You also may see changes in your mood, motivation, and self-worth because of it. Naturally, that may spill over into your work, personal relationships, and family relationships. You may also resort to unhealthy behaviors like substances, food, video games, etc. just to feel better, or not feel at all, only for a short while. You are not alone in how you are feeling, and there is also room for you to grow and heal to be your best and healthy self. You deserve better, and I can help you get to a place where you start to give yourself better.

Those in your life might think everything is fine, but inside you feel overwhelmed and stuck. Your anxiety is ramped up trying to control something that you cannot control. You find yourself not trusting yourself and seeking external validation frequently. Feelings of distraction are constant and worries take over your thoughts. You may even feel that your relationships have changed and that you need to protect the ones you love by hiding how you truly feel. Trying to stay "positive" just isn't working. If you are ready for change, you have come to the right place. I am not a smile and nod therapist and will partner with you.

My approach is relational, rooted in understanding of our individual, collective and systemic patterns, blocks and trauma that keep us stuck.
I am here to help you listen to the signals of your body, mind, heart and relationship that are calling for a new way of being. Often these signals come in the form of conflict, sexual blocks, loneliness, depression, anxiety, addiction, grief; I believe they are an initiation. Something is out of sync: you know all the "right" things to do, and yet they still don't seem to get to the heart of the problem. You are beginning therapy because part of you knows it would be more uncomfortable to continue "business-as-usual" than to open to change.

The group process allows for the inevitable repetition of relational patterns that have gotten in the way of being our most authentic selves.
Although fear, anger, shame, guilt, and sadness often prevent us from living each day to the fullest, each one of us is uniquely resilient. From a strengths-based approach, I work collaboratively with my patients to facilitate personal growth, healing, and the establishment of more meaningful and fulfilling interpersonal relationships. I utilize EMDR (eye movement desensitization and reprocessing) as a primary intervention in the resolution of trauma in individual therapy.

"I'm responsible for who I am. My task is to free myself sufficiently so that I can respond in the present moment not from past programming. That's what freedom is." Initially a practitioner in nonprofits and community behavioral health programs and more recently private practice, i have come to find as a more recent trauma-informed therapist, symptoms such as anxiety, depression, and relational issues are often expressions of unresolved grief and trauma. I am fascinated by the power of lasting change that comes from intentional, deep work.

Approaches: somatic, sensorimotor psychotherapy (mind-body), attachment, relational, neurobiological, trauma-informed.
It is within your reach to live a life that is calmer, more grounded and satisfying - where you're not overwhelmed or completely detached - no matter how you are feeling right now or what happened before. You feel on guard, emotionally and physically flooded, disempowered, alone, and hijacked by triggers. Maybe you feel like you cannot trust yourself or others, and your self-confidence is suffering. Whether you're here because of a traumatic event or you have experienced multiple hardships in life, it is possible to get through this, reclaim your spirit and self, and help your mind/body be here in the present moment.

My approach to treatment is relational, and trauma-informed, allowing us to explore the past while staying grounded in the present.
We often seek out therapy in the harder moments of life. These moments leave us feeling broken or stuck and can emerge as a result of anything from challenging personal relationships and life transitions to systemic oppression. I view my work as a therapist as an opportunity to enter these places with my clients—finding beauty in the shadows and guiding you back to remembering your inherent wholeness.

Whatever I have to say about myself, our work is about you! It's about you having a safe, contained, confidential relationship with me. It's about you bringing your concerns for our consideration. I've been in private practice for more than forty years as a Jungian analyst. I work primarily with individuals. In addition to working with conscious relational material, I have been trained to work with unconscious material, dreams, daydreams, symptoms of all kinds to identify patterns that are not working and to discover with you new possibilities.

Therapy is a collaborative process that can help us move through painful situations and challenging transitions, finding meaning even in darker places. As the poet May Sarton wrote, 'without darkness/nothing comes to birth/As without light/nothing flowers.' Constructing a safe and supportive container for healing allows us to explore patterns in a different light. In this renewed relational field, development and choices take root. Grounded in Somatics, an approach that builds awareness of links between mind and body, I am influenced by Jungian analytic psychology, psychodynamic, cognitive/behavioral, and family systems frameworks.

I enjoy working with individuals interested and committed to discovering their own inherent capacity to live a more embodied, present, and expressive life. I am passionate about helping those who are struggling with a major life transition or have experienced trauma/loss regain a sense of well-being and ease in their life and personal relationships. My approach to healing is fundamentally relational and holistic, drawing heavily on mindfulness-based, somatic, and creative expression techniques. I interweave neurophysiological, transpersonal, and attachment based frameworks that allow for both solution-focused and depth work.

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
