Just like the natural seasons change, so do the seasons in our lives. I understand that women experience a wide range of concerns, from self-esteem and body image issues to relationship challenges, work-life balance, and the impact of societal pressures. I am here to provide a safe and non-judgmental space where we can explore these issues together. In my practice, I take an integrative and holistic approach to women's mental health. I believe that our mental and emotional well-being is interconnected with our physical health, relationships, spirituality and overall life satisfaction.

I see counseling as a process in which we come to understand and trust one another, work as a team to explore and define present problem situations, develop future goals for an improved life, and work in a systematic fashion toward realizing those goals. I provide an atmosphere of openness and trust in which you may choose to examine and change non-functional patterns and behaviors. I believe that as people become personally responsible for interactions and behavior, they are very capable of finding happiness and contentment.

Stressful situations or painful events can change the trajectory of our life in powerful and lasting ways. A traumatizing experience such as an assault or accident, experiences of abuse, the death of someone close to you, a life-changing medical condition, losing your job, or major adjustments such as retirement or the end of a relationship can leave us feeling lost, alone, hopeless, angry, and afraid. My goal is to help you feel better quickly through cultivating new coping skills, as well as helping you to grow psychologically so that you are more prepared for the future ups and downs of life.

We all have problems, habits and "quirks" of personality and wonder sometimes when life gets rough, whether we need therapy or if it would be a good option. When life is getting on top of you, when you begin to feel strong emotions that you didn't know that you had, when you feel lost or hopeless or just want to reach your full potential, then give yourself a chance to seek a new solution. I can help. I believe that each individual is creative and unique and that there is no "one" way to be happy or live life. I now offer EMDR via Telehealth.

In the therapy room, I love working with folks who find that they are struggling to fit in and connect with others - folks who might not feel that they have someone who GETS them. Maybe you feel like the black sheep of your family. Maybe you feel like you stand out in your community in some way. Perhaps you're ready to make some changes and feel nervous about how the new you will be accepted. I'm here to be a support and a guide, when needed, as you begin your new journey. Additionally, I love working with women and parents, with folks trying to learn how to live lives more true to their core values, and with folks in relationship.

Through the counseling process, I strive to provide an atmosphere of openness, trust, and support in which you can explore where you currently are in life and where you hope to be. I understand that opening up to someone new about your story may be pretty intimidating. My goal is to create a safe, non-judgmental space where you're able to feel accepted and heard. Wherever you are in your journey of life, you will always be met with compassion, grace and acceptance.

How does relational therapy work?

Relational therapy was developed by psychologist Jean Miller, whose ideas stressed that having strong connections with others encourages better health and well-being when compared with a lonely existence. Conversely, poor interpersonal relationships do not foster growth and learning. Relational therapy also encourages trust in others and patience with others, along with better communication and less conflict.

Is relational therapy evidence-based?

Relational therapy is not well-studied, and it may not be as effective in treating certain mental health conditions when compared with evidence-based treatments like cognitive behavioral or acceptance and commitment therapy. However, relational therapy uses techniques found in cognitive behavioral therapy as well as psychodynamic therapy, which are both well-studied with empirical research.

How long are people typically in relational therapy?

Clients may see improvement after a few weeks or months of therapy. Like cognitive behavioral therapy, relational therapy can reduce symptoms within 10 to 20 weeks, at 45 to 50 minutes once a week. But like any type of therapy, improvement depends on the person and the severity of the problem.

Does relational therapy work?

While no therapy type will work for everyone, some evidence suggests that this therapy can be effective. Relational therapy can help a person manage problematic relationships as well as the mental health conditions that accompany difficult relationships like depression or anxiety. This therapy type may offer benefits that are hard to measure but can be just as valuable—including feelings of higher self-worth or healthier connections with others.
