I think being human is hard. I believe on some level, most people know who they want to be, but it gets really hard to show up in our lives when the bad feelings-fear, guilt, shame, embarrassment, anxiety-are present. I think my role as a therapist is to help people learn how to show up in their lives and grow enough to have these bad feelings, and be people they can be proud of.

Being a human is hard. Each and every one of us, at some point in our lives, finds ourselves lost and stuck. We look at our lives and realize that this is not the life we planned for, that we are not the people we wanted to be. We look at the things we're spending our energy on, and we recognize that we're not moving any closer to the life we want. I am honored to have found a role in helping people to settle into those stuck moments, to open up to the experience they meet there, to choose a direction, and to take steps toward the life that they want.

My interests include working with children & adults who have mental health issues including but not limited to depression, anxiety, ADHD, relationship and family of origin issues, and other behavioral issues. I also have experience with substance abuse and domestic violence. If your issues are in an area that I do not feel comfortable in treating, I will refer to another clinician. Although counseling is an extremely personal experience, it is important to realize that our relationship is a professional rather than a personal one. This means that our time together will be limited to the scheduled sessions that you have with me.

I am a Licensed Professional Counselor and my passion in life is working with children and their families. It is my joy to help children through difficult times at home or at school - divorce, grief/loss, bullying, poor academic performance, peer issues, anger management, self-esteem, anxiety, coping skills/adjusting to new situations, ADHD. I have worked in the school system as a teacher and school counselor for almost 10 years and this has allowed me to see first-hand the struggles many children face on a daily basis and how this can affect their academic performance as well as their friendships and home life.

We all have times in our lives when we feel grief, stress, much emotional pain, overwhelmed. For people with the disease of substance use disorder, it can be especially challenging. The length of time in sobriety may not be an indicator of how well we are able to handle those feelings at any given time. If this is such a time for you, I am here to share my wisdom, experience, strength, and hope with you. I may not know your story, but after years of being a counselor, I know how to help you get back on track.

“Peace does not mean to be in a place where there is no noise, trouble or hard work. Peace means to be in the midst of all those things and still be calm in your spirit...that is the real meaning of peace." Whether you have previously seen other therapists or if this is your first time seeking help, I am an active and curious therapist which tends to make it a little easier to engage in this process. I believe that every one of us deserves to live the fullest life we can, even with the very real obstacles that stand in our way. I also believe that struggling is an inherent part of being human. The way we interact with our past, current situation, and dreams and goals can actually lead to increased suffering instead of moving closer to what we want.

Carl Jung once said ”I am not what happened to me; I am what I choose to become.“ Like Carl Jung, I believe that while we cannot always control what happens to us, we have the power to shape who we become.Life can feel overwhelming, especially when you're navigating grief, anxiety, mood disorders, identity exploration, or life transitions. My ideal client is someone—aged 10 to adulthood—seeking a safe space to process complex emotions and experiences. They want to heal, grow, and move forward, even if the path feels unclear. Remember you are powerful not powerless!

Hiii! I'm Kimberly! I am the Purpose Pusha'! Take a minute to imagine every dream you've wanted to come to life stolen from you by your past. That's truly heartbreaking, right? Now it's your time to take it back. Your past childhood trauma, current depression/anxiety or even your substance use doesn't define your future nor who you are but here's what your healing process will look like a little laughter, some tears, and discovering a new authentic you. My clients describe me as compassionate, personable, and authentic. Some even say G.O.A.T. (Greatest Of All Time) but I'm not bragging.

FAQs - About Therapy and Counseling

How can I find a therapist in 70501?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.

Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

How much does therapy cost?

The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.

What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?

Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

Are therapy sessions confidential?

Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
