Do you feel disconnected from yourself and others around you? Do you feel unsure how to express your true self or live the life you want? As a Gender, Sex, and Relationship Diversity knowledgable therapist, I offer a supportive environment to address issues in life that may be holding you back. Sometimes it's our own beliefs about ourselves or our true potential that's our greatest barrier. Therapy can help uncover the barriers that are in the way and learn skills and techniques for how to work with yourself and collaborate with life so that you feel like you are living as opposed to just surviving.

I believe being human is acknowledging that our lives often reflect a different reality than we envisioned for ourselves. This can be espeically true in the postpartum period. As a therapist for moms and couples, I can say I have lived this experience for myself. My transition to becoming a mom included birth trauma, a birth injury, and postpartum depression. If you have ever thought to yourself, "This is not what I expected.", "Why am I struggling so much?", or "I'm not good enough", you are in the right place! Me too, friend.

Are you feeling like life is getting a little heavy? Maybe you're dealing with overwhelming emotions, stress, anxiety or just feeling alone in it all. Challenges will inevitably arise throughout life. Some can be handled effectively on our own and some require additional support. That's where I come in! First of all, kudos to you for having the strength and courage to ask for help. I'd consider it a privilege to support you in whatever you're going through. For over ten years, I've devoted my life to listening to people share their fears and frustrations, while equipping them with the tools to live more fulfilling and joyful lives.

Do you feel like you are always worrying? Are you anxious all the time and unable to relax? Perhaps you feel the constant need for reassurance from others that you are going to be okay, or maybe you avoid going to certain places because they cause increased anxiety. Maybe you have tried therapy or breathing techniques before with no improvement. Regardless of what brought you here, you are ready to kick the extreme anxiety to the curb and stop spending your time worrying and overthinking.

The transition to Motherhood looks different for everyone. We never know what our hard will look like. Sleep deprivation, fertility, body image, lack of support, birth trauma, fluctuating hormones, redefining worthiness & achievement, relationship issues being highlighted, new identity integration, loneliness in friendships, and more. No matter what is happening, I want you to know you're not alone. Establishing care with a Maternal Mental Health therapist before, during pregnancy, and in postpartum is a ripe time for personal development and looking after your mental health.

I believe everyone can benefit from a safe place to process the past and present and realize goals for the future. In my work people can expect me to provide a safe, open and engaged relationship to address life hopes and challenges. Meeting people where they're at is the most important starting point. Then together we help someone envision the future and realize their potential.

Positive Psychology Therapists

How does positive psychology therapy work?

Positive psychology therapy derives from the work of Martin Seligman of the University of Pennsylvania. He and others developed the field of positive psychology building on humanistic theory. Positive psychology therapy is similar to acceptance and commitment therapy, and it essentially quiets emotional distress through positivity, contentment, and well-being. This therapy does not reduce the individual to symptoms and conditions.

When do I know if I need treatment using positive psychology?

If an individual is overwhelmed by emotional distress and general negativity, they may feel trapped. A positive psychology therapist can help them view their emotions and behaviors differently, and approach life with a better understanding of their positive strengths. This therapy can provide an individual with the coping skills needed for a healthier and more constructive life.

What should I expect from positive psychology therapy?

The patient may be asked to explore their signature strengths. The therapist will also ask the individual to talk about their goals, which should be specific, measurable, achievable, realistic, and timely. Discussing negative experiences and symptoms is important, but so is the exploration of positive experiences. The objective is to identify and lessen negative thoughts and behaviors and move toward optimal health and productivity. The individual will see life in a more positive and fulfilling way. This therapy is proactive and may use forgiveness, gratitude, hope, and compassion to help reframe negativity.

Is positive psychology effective in therapy?

Positive psychology therapy is evidence-based and effective. One study found that people with eating disorders benefit from this type of intervention. This therapy encourages the person to reframe their distressed thoughts and move into healthier patterns of functioning. This therapy also aims to move an individual toward what works well in their life. Positive psychology therapy can elicit lifelong change, with higher levels of satisfaction, less stress, as well as positive emotional and behavioral habits.
