I work with clients between the ages of 13-24, struggling with everything from mild anxiety and depression to disordered eating and self-harm. Some of my clients face pervasive mood and relationship struggles based in trauma and family conflict. My work relies on evidence-based treatments rooted in cognitive-behavioral and psychodynamic therapies including DBT, interpersonal therapy, and family systems. I work well in building a safe and trusting space in therapy, especially for clients who have complex histories.

I utilize evidence based practice that shows results such as EMDR, Family Systems, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, Mindfulness Based Stress Reduction and Compassion Focused Therapy.
The scope of my practice encompasses treating those who experience Anxiety, Negative Beliefs about Self (worth, responsibility, power, choice, etc), Trauma, Body Image and Diet Culture, Life Stress, and Grief. Life can sometimes take hold of us and we feel like we have lost our grasp, I work to help those get a better hold on things again. My focus is on helping you find ways to heal and feel whole again. We often have a lot of unpacking we have to do to heal and feel lighter to move forward. I like to intertwine humor into the treatment experience.

I have been trained in Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR), Dialectical Behavioral Therapy (DBT), and Internal Family Systems (IFS).
I define myself as an IFS-informed EMDR therapist. I believe that therapy's main goal is to help us come to terms with our past and move on with our lives. What helped us adapt to our environment before, may be maladaptive now. We may experience stressful situations, and these situations may negatively impact the way we see ourselves, the way that we see others, the way that we see the world, and the way that we see our future. The good news is that with courage, curiosity, and introspection, we can change even the most deep-seated negative beliefs about ourselves and others; we can become aware of, and change the way we react.

In my sessions, I focus on using evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (thinking processes), Strengths Based, Brief Therapy, Problem Solving, DBT (mindfulness), Moral Reconation Therapy (MRT), and Solution Focused to help clients improve all areas of their life.
Confidential talk without judgement. Hi, I’m Shakea “Kea” Roper. I’m a licensed clinical social worker (LCSW). Do you need someone to talk to that will be understanding, compassionate, and encouraging? If so, you have reached the right therapist. I’m a single mother from the inner city. I’ve been through many struggles. From parenting, to family, to work, and just life. I’ve learned you can always work on yourself to help break cycles/patterns that once held you back. I value honesty and keeping it real. When there is free time, I like to sleep, spend time with family, board games, and of course diamond painting/other crafts.

I incorporate IFS, DBT, trauma-informed CBT, Somatic healing, and art and dance skills to best support your needs.
I’m glad you found my page! My name is Sage (they/them). Have you ever felt outcast from those around you, or less than others based on the intersectionality of your identities and how you present yourself? You may feel that nobody will understand that coming out later in life is possible- you are not alone. As a non-binary, pan, ace, neurodivergent and disabled therapist, I have lived experience with where you are right now. When you come to see me, you will be met with non-judgment, empathy, connection, and compassion. You are always welcome to come as you are. Outside the zoom room I love nature, dance, and fostering animals!

I have experience implementing CBT, DBT, ACT, Solution Focused, and Motivational Interviewing.
Unfortunately previous negative experiences with counseling can impact one's decision to seek out treatment again. Therapy isn't about walking into a room because of needing to be "fixed". Therapy is a collaborative approach that begin's with me creating a safe, comfortable, and non judgmental environment. I will always recognize the person before the behavior that we are working to change. My hope at the end of each session is to assist with enhancing your strengths to elicit long term change.
