I specialize and most commonly work with individuals looking to heal from relational and developmental trauma, sexual violence, and intimate partner violence.
If you are dealing with the impact of past or current trauma, all while trying to keep it together and manage the stress of daily life- you are in the right place. I work with adults and teens (16+) who yearn to heal, but feel like they can never quite find a therapist that they can be real with. You may be facing relationship challenges and attachment wounds, anxiety and low self-worth, past patterns resurfacing, or approval seeking and perfectionism. You deserve time and space to navigate these complexities, to untangle the threads of your experiences, and to rediscover profound self-compassion and connection.

I have a special interest in working with those who want to heal from religious trauma or process their spirituality, those who want to better navigate intercultural and inter-racial relationships, and those, particularly men, who want to be more open and connected in their relationships.
If you are feeling stuck, alone, or confused about yourself or your relationships, then therapy could be a helpful next step for you. I would love to help you explore your story and learn how to tap into your ability to grow and heal. My style is warm, conversational, and relational, because I believe the main way we grow and change is by being in authentic and non-judgmental relationships. Whether you are facing relational concerns, a life transition, grief and loss, anxiety and depression, or any type of trauma, my goal is to help you gain both the insight and the skills you need to navigate your concerns.

I treat adults and older teens with presenting concerns of depression, anxiety, trauma, low self-esteem, relational problems, and grief.
Seeking therapy takes immense strength and courage. It can feel vulnerable to trust another human with your struggles, fear, and pain. From the beginning, I will do my best to listen deeply and carefully, respecting that you have been doing the best you can with what you’ve been handed in life. I believe that our symptoms often provide information about how we have had to adapt to our circumstances. I therefore strive to honor how you have had to cope while working towards alleviating your distress and deepening your connection with yourself and others.

I have worked with a range of patients and problems, including depression, anxiety, trauma, loss, anger, relationship issues, identity conflict, and struggles with self-esteem.
I view the psychotherapy process as a collaboration, where the two of us are working together to make sense of the obstacles interfering with your emotional well-being. My treatment approach is psychodynamic and relational. I find that closely attending to shifts in the therapeutic relationship - in a safe and empathic manner - can be powerful in unlocking painful patterns and enhancing personal strengths. My aim is to help you gain a fuller understanding of yourself and, in turn, more freedom of choice so you can live a more meaningful life, with greater comfort.

My style is trauma-informed and emotion-focused.
The foundation of good therapy is trust. As we build trust together, we can begin to explore, identify and tolerate emotions in healthier ways. Emotions are never the problem. Instead, emotions are data- guiding us to truth and potential. When we manage our emotions, and learn from them, we can avoid the traps of language, thinking, and habit that inhibit healthy development, that leave us stuck. Therapy is like an excavation. It is a cathartic oxygenation of buried experience done by an individual with the help of a therapist.

Have all the years of overworking, people-pleasing, and striving for perfection suddenly caught up with you? You feel guilty when you try to rest, and then mad at yourself for not being able to "chill out" like everyone else. Anxiety keeps you in a loop of replaying, overthinking, and trouble with trusting that things are ever truly okay despite doing all the journaling, breathing and yoga that's supposed to help. With all you're holding on the inside, how are you supposed to enjoy the life you've worked so hard to build?

You’ve spent a lot of your life just “getting through it”. Despite a lot of difficulties in your childhood, and even your early adult life, you’ve managed to bulldoze through it all and stay on track as much as you could. But now that you’re through it (at least mostly), your past seems to be catching up to you. Your relationships with significant others, friends, family and even yourself seem to be challenging. You’re realizing now that maybe “just getting through it” wasn’t enough, and it is time to get some support for yourself, whether you really want to or not. Slowing down is really difficult, but it's time.

You've probably been to a therapist before, and it hasn't quite felt right. Or maybe you liked them, but felt disconnected from their approach. Felt that there was a way to work more deeply with your emotions, but your therapist wanted to talk about your thoughts, and give you homework. Felt really bogged down in the details, and the negative, of what's been going on in your life. Haven't really laughed.

Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
