I am the Owner/LPC at Frame of Mind Counseling, LLC. I have many years of experience working in the mental health field. Throughout my career, I have worked with children, adolescents, adults and families struggling with issues such as ADHD, ODD, mood disorders, depression, anxiety, trauma, adjustment disorders, behavioral concerns and those adjudicated delinquent. I also have been certified in Trauma Focused Therapy, offer ADOS assessments and trained in treating Tic Disorders (CBIT). Barbara is a Licensed Professional Counselor who specializes in Mental Health Counseling. Barbara received her Master's Degree from Slippery Rock University in Psychology. Her counseling approach is eclectic in nature and adjusted to meet the existing needs of the client in relationship to their own individual developmental needs.

I operate from a psychodynamic-interpersonal perspective and utilize relational-cultural and feminist frameworks to explore how our identities and experiences have been influenced by the environments and systems we exist in. My areas of interest include working with concerns related to identity development, late adolescence and emergent/early adulthood, interpersonal and relational concerns, women’s concerns, and family of origin trauma.

Dr. Edwards is a Clinical Forensic Psychologist. She serves the greater Pittsburgh area, as well as across the Commonwealth. Dr. Edwards is unique as her academic training in Forensic Psychology involved both law and psychology specialty coursework. All associates have extensive forensic and clinical experience working with juveniles, adults, and families.

I address all issues from the perspective of a person's environment. We all exist in the context of a family, a community and a culture. In therapy we often find that there is nothing wrong with us, depression, anxiety, etc., are not innate dysfunctions but rather result from conflict that arises in our environment. I like to help individuals, couples and families learn about these environments to better navigate them as well as learn about themselves and what it means to be who they are in the context of their environment.

I operate with the assumption that happiness and well being is contingent on good relations with others and a healthy regard for ourselves. Most problems presented in counseling can be understood as disconnection, an inability to embrace ourselves or the people around us. Therapy can be a means of reestablishing meaningful connections by addressing the obstacles that thwart us. These obstacles can take many forms, such as excessive fear, unresolved childhood injuries, stalemated conflicts, distorted beliefs, insecurities, depression or addictions. I have found that therapeutic conversations are a very effective means for overcoming the obstacles to connection, meaning and happiness.
