My ideal client is someone who has realized they keep tripping over the same life problem or unpleasant situation. This individual wants to find out how to do something different to create a positive change in their life. This discovery process might involve some testing, or might be stand alone therapy, but will require effort from both of us. I enjoy a challenge and expect the therapy process to be collaborative whether struggling with a life change, starting over, or dealing with a loss. Anxiety, depression, PTSD, and sexual abuse are areas of experience, utilizing individual or group format.

I have specialized training in relationships and attachment, family systems, parenting and healing of trauma and PTSD.
You have probably read some books, listened to podcasts but are tired of not seeing results or feel that nothing is changing. Perhaps you're dealing with anxiety or depression, maybe it’s your family, or thoughts and habits. Maybe it’s a disappointing relationship or the lack of relationship. Maybe you have no idea what it is and that’s why you’re here! I help individuals and couples grow in personal insight and skills that translate into a more enriching life and more enriching relationships with those around us.

I believe in helping every person toward their potential and strength to achieve a state of holistic wellness. I believe that the most important aspect of a counseling relationship is the human connection. After establishing a mutual, trusting connection with my clients, I utilize an integrative approach, with a Narrative Therapy emphasis. Together, my clients and I work to achieve a unique blend of meaning-making, helping clients to make sense of their story, process what it means in their life today, and choose how to look forward.

Over the years I see that I am very well-suited to work with clients who are experiencing a major life transition. These include changes in relationship status, employment, health, sexual/ gender identity, as well as retirement/aging concerns. While transitions can bring new opportunities, such changes also come with an array of losses, endings and goodbyes. Transitions can generate challenging symptoms, including a sense of grieving, starting over and/or confronting the unknown. Life can lead one to a place where it pushes you to explore your personality and life choices, and make new sense of your life experiences.

Hello. Many people seek a therapist when they’re feeling stuck, are in the middle of a change, want to challenge their growth edge, or feeling alone or disconnected. Internal and external dynamics contribute to a sense of discomfort and innumerable signs and symptoms, which are meant to catch our attention. My approach to therapy is to support and guide you to listen deeply to the meaning of those experiences, increase your sense of connection to yourself and others, and build practices that strengthen your willingness and ability to access ease, connection, and compassion.

From time to time, the complexity of life demands something that overwhelms our usual coping strategies. These challenges can sometimes be brought on by relationships, careers, family, or health. Or perhaps it’s something more connected to our core understanding of the world around us. The meaning we've made from life's past events serves as a template for how we will process each new experience in the future. My goal is to help facilitate an insight-oriented process of understanding why we feel the way we do and provide a source of strength and a healthy curiosity to lead to a better tomorrow.

I have 19 years experience working with clients to free themselves from the burden of symptoms that have kept them stuck physically, emotionally and spiritually, whether the origin of the symptoms come from trauma, or are the result of chronic depression/anxiety.
You are very courageous right now and I congratulate you are taking the first steps toward healing. At this moment you might be feeling stuck, like you're on autopilot, just going through the motions but not really engaging in life. Maybe you've given up activities or hobbies that you used to enjoy. You maybe once had a zest for living but now feel like life is one burden after another. Maybe there is a deep heaviness when you move throughout the day. You lie awake worried about the future or regretting things from the past. You're on edge or keyed-up all the time. You are not alone in feeling these things.

My ideal client is someone who is willing to work, at whatever level that may be for them. It is important to celebrate and build on small successes. Change can be scary. The idea of therapy can be terrifying for some, and a relief for others. If you are reading through this, it means you are likely searching for something. I believe that in therapy a space is created to help you to work on your goals in an environment that is supportive and safe. While therapy is not an end all, it helps you to discover more about yourself and the interactions you have in your daily life. Therapy is what you make it.

I view my role to be as a guide in the journey of recovering access to our inherent capacity for health and psychological wholeness. My approach to counseling is humanistic and depth-oriented; our past informs, but need not limit our present lives. I specialize in IFS (Internal Family Systems) to help clients get acquainted with parts of themselves and reconcile inner tensions. At times I may utilize art-based techniques to provide clients with other languages with which to communicate, as well as resourcing techniques from Dialectical Behavior Therapy, and Solution-Focused approaches to mobilize individual and family strengths.

Are you frustrated with yourself and relationships more and more often? If you answered “yes” to these questions, then this is the right place for you. Trauma and PTSD Therapists

When should I seek treatment for trauma?

Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.

How long does trauma therapy take?

Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.

What happens if trauma is left untreated?

Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.

Can PTSD come back after treatment?

It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
