I work with a
trauma
-informed and systems lens and integrate a variety of theoretical orientations.
Are you aching to feel at home with your body and connect with your inner self? Are you struggling with chronic pain or anxiety? Are you longing for deeper community supports and connections? Are you craving playfulness? Depth? A sense of connection to nature? Many of us are experiencing a sense of disconnection in our lives, bodies, relationships, passions, the world around us. Therapy can help you connect and reclaim your power and agency. We can work together to understand how you are feeling and heal inner distress, as well as manage daily difficulties and anxieties. I specialize in Neurodivergent-Informed and affirming therapy.

I have specialized training in relationships and attachment, family systems, parenting and healing of
trauma and PTSD
.
I work with are individuals who feel stuck in patterns they can't quite identify or change and couples who want to make it work but aren't sure what the path forward is. Maybe you have read some books, listened to podcasts but are tired of "spinning the tires". Maybe it’s anxiety or depression, maybe it’s your family, maybe it's thoughts and habits, maybe it’s a disappointing relationship or lack thereof. Maybe you have no idea what it is and that’s why you’re here. You want to finally move forward, to have a clear insight into your relationship and who you are. You are ready to feel understood and accepted.

I am trained in EMDR and Internal Family Systems, both of which are extremely helpful in treating a variety of
trauma
related problems.
I am NOT currently taking clients right now. Most people are interested in improving their lives in some significant manner when they engage in therapy. Based on your needs and preferences, I offer short-term/solution-focused therapy, as well as longer-term "depth therapy." I focus on clinical assessment and move toward providing strategies and skills for symptom reduction for anxiety or other mood issues, assist you in building on current strengths, and help you find new ways of coping with the changes and challenges life throws at us.

I take a person-centered,
trauma
-informed approach to counseling.
I believe we all experience times where we need support, and it takes courage to reach out for help. Each of us has unique needs that can change over time, and counseling is individualized to each person’s situation. You are an important part of the therapeutic process, and the work that we do together. I place a great deal of value in the counseling relationship. I also have experience working with children, adolescents and young adults coming from a variety of backgrounds. I enjoy working with this population, and helping support them as they navigate the challenges and transitions of being a young person today.

My practice focuses on working with adults and couples with the following concerns: relationship issues, communication, Bi-polar, depression,
PTSD
, anxiety, bereavement, and
trauma
.
Often times, navigating relationships can be similar to walking through a minefield. The only problem is that most of us tend to step on a few mines. The deep hurt and emotional
trauma
that each exploding mine causes in our lives is carried into all subsequent relationships we dare to enter. In dealing with the pain of past relationships, many struggle to cope and find solutions to push back against their very real pain; many of these solution cause deep wounds of their own.

I also use Cognitive Processing Therapy (CPT) and EMDR in working with
trauma
.
If you are having trouble with relationships in your life or have lost interest in the things that once brought you joy it might be time for counseling. These are not uncommon experiences in our human lives, but if they go on too long life may start to unravel. My passion is to help people find answers to these questions and move beyond their difficulties to a more peaceful and fulfilling life. Although I use a variety of modalities in my work I specialize in using EMDR to treat
trauma
, anxiety, OCD, panic and phobias.

I specialize in treating
trauma
, grief, anxiety and chronic health issues.
All people are one of a kind, but here's where we're all alike: All of us come from a personal history and context: A past that got us through to where we are now. And "Right Now" is where all the choices and opportunities are. Some things we may want to change, other things we may choose to accept as they are. Therapy can be helpful in understanding yourself well enough to know which is which. And therapy can offer some things you may need to go forward with your choices: Hope, perspective and someone who believes in you while you practice believing in yourself.

**CASELOAD FULL AT THIS TIME** "You don't understand" is something your teenager says to you, or something you think when you try talking to them. You want to help your child live a full, happy life, and you're worried that they won't get there on the path they seem to be on. They're stumped at each turn by depression, anxiety, psychosis, or by painful things that have happened to them in the past. Their behavior has changed, and you want to understand why, and what you can do to help, but the things you try often seem to backfire.

I believe everyone deserves to be happy in life and in their relationships. At times, this can be challenging and people tend to get "stuck." Asking for help can be hard, but so rewarding when you take the risk to change and build awareness. With professional skills, loads of compassion, and a collaborative effort I can definitely help adults, teenagers, and families in figuring out how to get "unstuck" and enjoy their lives to the fullest. I have extensive experience working with anxiety, grief, depression, and
PTSD
. I particularly enjoy helping clients deal with
trauma
from the past.

I use experiential approaches including mindfulness, somatic techniques, EMDR, and Parts Work (IFS) to explore issues like
trauma
and dissociation, loss and grief, anxiety, depression, low self-esteem, boundary setting, life transitions, and relationships.
I believe healing starts with being kind to ourselves. Life has a tendency to throw curve balls that trigger old hurts and make us feel small and inadequate. It’s these very moments of vulnerability that provide opportunities to learn and step into a bigger version of ourselves - if we are ready. It is my honor to walk alongside you on your journey to connecting to yourself and the world around you, and figuring out next steps. I believe in a holistic approach that involves mind, body, heart and soul, each of which provide unique information about the work that is needed at this time.

AT THIS TIME I AM NOT ACCEPTING NEW CLIENTS. At times life’s difficulties and transitions can cause us to feel overwhelmed, unsettled or stuck. We might experience grief, pain and
trauma
, or find our relationships difficult to navigate. We long for deeper connections, a sense of belonging and for meaningful relationships. Such times can highlight the opportunity to become more self-aware and develop ways to stay in the presence of ‘what is’. We can reassess what matters to us, build on strengths and resiliency, address unhelpful patterns, heal and move toward living more fully.

EMDR is a method used to treat symptoms of
PTSD
.
I have been working in the field since 1998 and have been in private practice since 2002. My experience is with a broad spectrum of physical, mental, and emotional difficulties. In private practice I do work with people in a traditional therapeutic setting, but I offer other methods that have been effective with clients who have not been receptive to other treatment.

I specialize in insight-oriented therapy as well as EMDR, which is a somatically oriented therapy that helps clients recover from
PTSD
and from childhood/developmental
trauma
.
I work with adolescents and adults. I focus on helping people change unhappy patterns in their lives and find relief from suffering. I primarily utilize a psychodynamic approach which means helping clients gain insight into the dynamics of maladaptive patterns that have evolved in their lives. Gaining insight is often the first step, or the foundation, of positive change. I also do EMDR to facilitate recovery from
trauma
.

When should I seek treatment for trauma?
Not everyone who undergoes trauma needs therapy to heal, but many do. If, after experiencing a traumatic event, you find yourself struggling with symptoms such as nightmares, dissociation, irritability, or emotional numbness—especially if these symptoms last more than a month and are severe enough to interfere with your daily functioning—you may benefit from seeking out therapy with a trauma-informed provider.
How long does trauma therapy take?
Different types of therapy for trauma unfold on different timelines. Prolonged exposure therapy and cognitive processing therapy, for example, each take about three months, while trauma-informed CBT may last anywhere from 8 to 25 sessions. Other approaches, especially those that are less structured or that incorporate elements from multiple modalities, may be more open-ended, though many patients report feeling better within the first few months of treatment.
What happens if trauma is left untreated?
Unaddressed trauma can have serious—even devastating—effects on relationships, career, and day-to-day functioning. Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) can lead people to distrust or lash out at others, making it difficult to maintain intimate relationships; it can also trigger symptoms such as flashbacks or hyperreactivity that can interfere with a person’s ability to function effectively, personally and/or professionally. Some sufferers turn to drugs to find relief. Symptoms may lessen on their own with time, but there is no guarantee that PTSD will resolve on its own.
Can PTSD come back after treatment?
It is possible for PTSD symptoms to recur months or years after successful treatment. This is because, like most mental health disorders, it is not possible to “cure” PTSD, and stressful life events may cause symptoms to recur in even the most resilient individuals. There is no shame in re-experiencing PTSD symptoms nor in returning to therapy when such relapses occur; indeed, many forms of trauma therapy explicitly encourage periodic “maintenance sessions” to reinforce coping skills and ensure that symptoms stay manageable.
