Regarding treatment techniques, my specialty is EMDR, which can reduce the distressing association that may linger with a belief, memory, or sensation.
There is a curious habit that I've noticed, especially when working with teens, that clients will mostly only work on the "issue of the week." This can have numerous benefits and can also delay the client's progress on any underlying concerns or patterns. Ideally, once a client has agreed to their treatment goals, they continue to take attainable steps towards that goal in therapy and in their daily life. When a client feels comfortable with their therapist to share their thoughts, emotions, and vulnerabilities, then deeper work can happen.

I utilize a variety of evidence-based, therapeutic approaches; EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) Guided Imagery, and Mindfulness-Based interventions.
You have the power to change. When you understand how you function and respond biologically, mentally, socially, and spiritually, you can create new ways of experiencing the world. I can help you build the techniques you need for success and peace. I have a doctoral specialization in Industrial Organizational Psychology for individual corporate counseling, leadership growth, or workshops. I can help with work-life balance and understanding your processes. I also am a foster and adoptive parent and like to work with parents who have fostered and adopted. It is a complex experience.

I am a certified EMDR therapist and I incorporate mindfulness, acceptance, breath work, and relaxation techniques.
We all face change, hardship, stress, and self-doubt. Yet we aspire for well-being, joy, and connection. As a therapist, I'll work with you to reduce your emotional stress and cultivate your own unique version of self-value. We can't control what life throws at us, but we can learn how to better cope with stress, find our voice, set boundaries, and discover comfort within the discomfort.

I get it. You're probably not here because you want to be. You’re here because you need to be. Maybe your relationship isn’t going well, or work is becoming too stressful. You’re avoiding people you care about and skipping out on things that used to matter. Fear and anxiety can be overwhelming. Guilt and shame feel suffocating. You might be wondering how you even got here. Let’s be real: trauma sucks. PTSD sucks. But recovery and posttraumatic growth is real. It’s not your fault you haven’t figured it all out on your own. This sh-t is hard! If you could have done it on your own already, you would have.

My practice incorporates Somatic Experiencing, EMDR, Mindfulness, alongside more traditional approaches to therapy to support healing and change.
Do you find it difficult to let go of painful feelings and unhealthy reactions even when you understand their roots? Are you anxious or on guard as you try to protect yourself even when you feel you *should* be happy? Sometimes overwhelming experiences get stuck in our bodies, and continue to determine our emotions, behaviors, and relationship styles despite our best efforts. Through a nurturing and interactive approach, I help individuals, families and groups shift out of these stuck places to create deep and lasting change.

I am specifically trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and EMDR 1 & 2.
My specialty is trauma. I love to journey with people to help them learn how to live free and full lives. Life is filled with many anxieties, trials, traumas, and obstacles which can create patterns that hinder us from thriving. When we experience trauma, our brain and body create adaptive or maladaptive patterns to cope with trauma. My goal is to partner with my clients to identify the problems, create effective goals, and increase healthy cognitive, emotional, and behavioral skills in order to decrease symptoms and develop healthy coping tools. I provide Christian counseling to those seeking support from a faith based perspective.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
