I am a relational therapist and have developed skills in modalities such as Narrative therapy, Client-center therapy, & Cognitive Behavioral Therapy to help clients towards cultivating autonomy, self-confidence, and healthier relationships.
Everyone deserves an opportunity for growth. The therapeutic relationship is a trusting process. I use empathy, humor, and positive regard to create a safe space to discuss distress people experience throughout the course of life. I encourage my clients to identify and focus on the things they can control when dealing with depression and anxiety. Change is challenging and often unavoidable. I work with adults (over age 21) who are looking to overcome fears and struggles by helping them learn effective ways to cope and set and maintain boundaries. My goal is to guide individuals on the road to healing, empowerment, and success.

Pamela’s focus is on helping clients improve their self-esteem and self-efficacy by overcoming the negative self-talk that can lead to feelings of frustration and low self-worth. Her style balances warmth and empathy with an active and direct approach, using humor and creativity to engage her clients in strength-based, collaborative interventions. Her method is eclectic, drawing mainly from REBT, Mindfulness, and Narrative Therapy. Pamela believes the best way for a person to explore complicated feelings is in a safe space, free from judgment.

To me this means an integration of narrative therapy approaches to assist you with finding insights as well as infusing person-centered approaches to enrich the relationship we will build together.
I primarily focus on communities of color, the LGBTQIA+ community, identity issues, depression, grief and the effects of pervasive trauma. I help my clients reach optimal mental health, build a repertoire of coping strategies to navigate their day to day, and process any traumas that hinder them from connecting with their most truest selves.

Book a session with me if you want to create a healthy and empowering narrative of your life that you can understand and reconcile with. Prior to working as a therapist, I studied comparative literature in college and worked as a copywriter in the advertising industry, discovering, creating, and sharing “stories”. I was drawn to therapy as an occupation, having learned that psychotherapy, essentially, is a process of storytelling. As a therapist, I strive to empower and support my clients in their journey of uncovering and re-arranging their thoughts and feelings to create a coherent and empowering narrative of their lives.

While working to alleviate symptoms, I explore, through a social justice lens, the ways an individual’s narrative influences their identity and perceptions of life’s circumstances.
My goal is to arm you with tools to find a more fulfilling way of living; therapeutic tools that follow you out of my office door and into your life. I have learned firsthand how a strong therapeutic relationship can create an opportunity for transformative change. That is why the alliance between therapist and client is of utmost importance to me. By integrating clinical theory, mindfulness, and yes, even humor, I help clients cultivate insight, self-acceptance, healthy boundaries, increased intimacy, and clarity of direction allowing depression, anxiety, and relationship problems to be relieved.

Online Therapists

Is online therapy as effective as in-person?

Numerous studies suggest that online therapy can be as effective as in-person therapy. However, further research is needed to determine if online therapy provides the same benefits across all client populations. Individuals with severe mental illnesses, such as schizophrenia or bipolar disorder, or those who may benefit from in-person check-ins, like those with eating disorders, may not experience the same level of benefit from online therapy. Nonetheless, the success of online therapy, much like in-person therapy, often hinges on the quality of the therapeutic relationship between the therapist and the client rather than the specific modality of therapy used.

What are the advantages and disadvantages of therapy conducted online?

One of the main advantages of online therapy is its convenience for both clients and therapists. It also allows clients who require specialized therapy to access a wider range of professionals than they could with only in-person sessions. Additionally, online therapy may be a more affordable option in some cases and often offers the same insurance benefits as in-person therapy. However, online therapy may not be suitable for everyone, especially those who value face-to-face interaction with a therapist. Therapists may find it more challenging to assess clients accurately in an online setting due to reduced nonverbal cues on camera. There is also the increased risk that disruptions caused by external factors, such as technology malfunctions, can hinder the therapy session. For these reasons, many therapists offer a "hybrid" therapeutic approach, alternating between seeing clients in-person and online.

Is online therapy suitable for children and adolescents?

Just like with adults, the accessibility and convenience of online therapy can greatly benefit children and adolescents. In fact, children and adolescents may be more accustomed to navigating online platforms than older adults, making online sessions feel more natural for them. Teens might also be interested in using additional online tools, such as therapist-recommended apps, as an adjunct to online therapy sessions. Apps for developing CBT skills, practicing mindfulness exercises, or tracking thoughts and moods can be helpful for teens receiving therapy. However, it's important to note that not all therapeutic modalities are well-suited to online therapy, especially those used with younger children. For example, play therapy, which helps younger children express their emotions, often requires in-person sessions to be fully effective.

Can I receive prescriptions and medication management with online therapy?

The ability for psychiatrists to prescribe medications through online therapy varies based on the medication and the states where the medical professional and client are located. While many prescribing regulations were relaxed during the COVID-19 pandemic, some states still enforce rules, especially concerning controlled substances, which may mandate an in-person visit before prescribing. Generally, however, medical professionals can prescribe non-controlled substances through online therapy sessions just as they do during in-person sessions.
