You may be feeling stuck, knotted up; undone by anxiety or anger; haunted by memories you simply cannot shake. Our work together can help. Attending with care to your unique passions, desires, fears—and to a history that may feel known but not quite your own—psychoanalytic work can help transform the very narrative of your life. Inviting into speech parts of yourself that may be hungering to speak, and sometimes hiding in plain sight, psychodynamic treatment can lead even the deepest of psychic pain to fall away, all the while allowing something new, something freeing, to emerge.

Do you feel there’s something more for you in the world, but don’t know what it is or how to get to it? Do emotional difficulties like anxiety, depression, and trauma symptoms make this seem impossible? My mission as a therapist is to build an authentic, trusting relationship where you’ll feel safe to explore who you are and what you want. Feeling secure, heard, and accepted is the starting point for working through any struggles holding you back. I work most often with college students, young professionals, and teens/pre-teens, on issues like anxiety, trauma, PTSD, and depression. I also find it rewarding to work with couples.

Are you tired of overthinking, analyzing, and constantly worrying? Do you think you might have OCD? Do you feel like you’re missing out on life? I help a lot of people who are feeling stuck and anxious just like you. You might not know what exactly you need, but you know you’re ready for things to change. I see clients who've been disappointed with therapy before because they didn't get the skills or tools that actually move them forward. I also see therapy newbies. You don't need another friend. You need supportive action. I want you to know you're not alone, you have permission to not know everything, and I'm here to support you.

I wouldn't say I have an ideal client because I would never imply that any client is less than ideal. Still, at this point I'm only offering therapy online and can only accept those clients who are moderately impacted by their mental health situation (moderately depressed, moderately anxious, etc).

My clients are children, adolescents, adults and parents experiencing life stressors, struggling with relationships, striving for personal growth or seeking change. My work commonly addresses symptoms such as anxiety, depression or general difficulty functioning in one or more areas. I use an eclectic and collaborative style to best serve each client. My highly individualized and integrative approach draws from a variety of techniques depending on specific therapeutic goals and needs. When working with children and adolescents, I find it is important and most effective if I collaborate closely with their parents to support the family system and promote optimal outcomes.

So often, when when we are in need of connection, connection fails. Many of us have been hurt. Sometimes we get caught in a destructive pattern where the people who matter the most to us react defensively, making it impossible for us to show our vulnerability.

I work with individual adults and couples; I am happy to offer in person sessions in Park Slope as well as virtual sessions in New York State. I specialize in treating people-pleasing and codependent patterns in relationships. You may have needed people-pleasing at a time in your life, but find it is no longer working now. People struggling with codependency typically have a history of trauma, abuse, neglect or other painful experiences. Even if no longer in those situations, you may experience deep loneliness from hiding yourself, resentment, physical aches and pains, substance use or perfectionism.

Finding someone who "gets you" is frustrating and emotionally draining. Perhaps you don't know what you want, but you're looking for someone to listen and hear your story. Your thoughts and feelings are unique and precious. Being able to understand why you feel the way you do about things is worth exploring. If you're feeling "stuck", burdened or in a frustrating relationship, I would like to help you connect with yourself through self awareness and exploring those feelings together. Once you talk about those difficult things, it will allow you to connect with your own emotions and heal what feels broken. Hope is what you need.

You’re exhausted. You are a sensitive soul, and you’re tired of feeling like crap. Even the basic life stuff feels like a lot, and you feel guilty and ashamed that you can’t do better. You want to make some changes but you don’t know where to start. You’re scared that if you finally make the effort to reach out to someone for help, they won’t be able to support you in the right way and you’ll feel even worse. You just want someone kind, and smart, and real to help you make sense of things.

How can I find a therapist in Brooklyn?

Search for nearby therapists or counselors by inputting your city, town, or suburb; or zip code; or a provider’s name into the search bar. From there, you can filter providers by the issues they treat, cost, insurance, gender, and other factors to find providers who are well-suited to your needs. To navigate between locations within the same country, enter a new city or zip code into the search bar.

Learn more about how to find a therapist.

Is online therapy a good option?

Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?

Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.

What type of therapist is right for me?

Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?

The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors. Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What type of therapy is right for me?

The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.

Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?

Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
