I have been working as a Marriage and Family Therapist since September, 2016. I retired from Washoe County School District where I served as a teacher and administrator with students from pre-k through high school. I provide individual, family, and couples counseling in my private practice and I work in Carson City School District providing counseling services for students. My background includes work with individuals on the autism spectrum and their families. I am interested in working with a wide variety of clients including children, adolescents, and adults and hope I can be of assistance to you and your family.

I have a strong faith and understand how this is important to those who believe in God so I would like to work with clients seeking Christian counseling but I am open and respectful to all who need help. Dr, Venters is a Licensed Clinical Psychologist in the state of Nevada and the founder of Hopsage Psychological Services in Elko Nevada. He has experience providing psychological services to a diverse group of people across the lifespan. He has worked in a variety of settings such as an integrated care community mental health center, a special education school, a neuropsychological assessment practice, a private therapy practice, and a state hospital. Dr. Venters has experience treating a wide range of mental health concerns as well as experience working with a person's other healthcare providers to promote holistic wellness.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families who enjoy having detailed conversations around their experiences. I believe every person has a unique story and I try to tailor therapy to that reality.

My approach to working with those who have an anxiety disorder is best described as "evidenced-based," "solution focused," and short-term in nature (i.e., 10-15 sessions). This is NOT "talk therapy", which can last for years, is incredibly expensive, and generally goes nowhere. My sessions employ a "Cognitive-Behavior Therapy" (CBT) emphasis, along with psycho-education concerning the condition being treated. I want those I work with to have a solid understanding of their condition (e.g., OCD, Chronic Worry, Panic, etc.), and their treatment protocol. Sessions typically last up to 1.5 hours, using state-of-the-art skills training.
