Life is hard, people are imperfect, and circumstances oftentimes just don't seem fair. Many of my clients describe having undergone a significant trauma or series of difficult events in their lives. This tends to create feelings of worthlessness and defectiveness, even despair. They may blame themselves and try to push down their thoughts, feelings, and memories and focus on other things. They may even try to reinvent (or perfect) themselves, but somehow end up reenacting their old struggles in a way that seems to be self-sabotaging. There is often chronic fearfulness as well as sadness and emptiness.

I started this journey of helping others in 2004 when I decided to make Mental Health a career choice. After earning a master's degree, I accepted my first paid position at Phoenix House of Brandon, FL and fell deeper in love with helping people emerge from whatever darkness they were experiencing in their lives. My passion is counseling those who struggle with various addictive behaviors (substance use, problem gambling, etc.) and co-occurring lifestyle issues. I have found strength-based and empathic approaches encourage clients to discover their capabilities for living a healthy, positive lifestyle. I also enjoy creating programs and policies/procedures.

The journey of life comes with many challenges and choosing something new rarely comes easy. If you have found yourself seeking out a therapist it may be fair to believe you've experienced moments when you've found yourself struggling with stress related to family, finances or relationships? Struggling to find a work/life balance? Feeling "stuck" after a big life change? Or notice things from your past continue to get in the way for you?

I hope that this message found you ready to let go of the patterns that ail you and prepared to embrace something new. You do not have to suffer not one day longer, we can navigate it together and I can be with you sitting in your closet or in sweat pants petting your dog healing. If you are feeling stuck, uncertain of how or if therapy can even help, like the last man standing, judged or alienated, this is your place to be celebrated and accepted for all of who you are. A good therapy session realigns your inner compass and enhances the things that make you EXTRAordinary. Let’ connect, big personality, and complex trauma welcomed.

Calling all of the overthinkers, the treatment-resistant depression sufferers, the people who say ‘therapy never worked for me,’ or ‘will never work for me,' the perfectionists and imperfect perfectionists alike. If you break out in hives when you are asked about your five-year plan, I’m your therapist. I promise to challenge you and make you laugh. I promise a safe space to make mistakes. I named my practice Waystation Counseling because way station is defined as, "a stopping point on a journey." I want you to leave your first appointment refreshed with a clear path and a set of goals.

Are you tired of staying small and playing it safe? Do you find yourself spending lots of anxious energy trying not to be so sensitive because you learned early on your feelings are a bad thing? Are you wanting to show up in a way that feels more authentic to you, but you can’t seem to figure out how? Imagine what it would be like to feel good being yourself. There wouldn’t be so much of a need for things to appear picture perfect on the outside. You could actually honor your feelings and needs. You could take up space. You could move through the messier parts of your life with more confidence and compassion for yourself.

We often experience a various range of emotions in life. Anxiety gets the best of us, depression brings us down. Stress can take control. Relationships can be complicated. Many of us desire a safe space to process these daily stressors and hassles in life.
