I am here to support your most loving, vivid, relational and authentic self; and to help bring care to the ways and places your wholeness is or becomes blocked. I also specialize in supporting couples to drop beneath old narratives and into real feelings, where connection and meaningful change can occur. People reach out to me to support a variety of needs and longings, which I deeply appreciate. I notice that the clients who find our time particularly valuable are those who are seeking deeper connections with themselves, others and the world. Our work together steps beyond diagnosis, into vast possibility.

Therapy of any sort is an essential tool that allows individuals to rediscover themselves in a profound way. Therapy is designed to dig deep into any personal past or current experiences that may inhibit rational thinking and emotional balance. We all have deeply held beliefs about ourselves and our experiences in life, and those beliefs have a significant impact on our ability to establish a sense of happiness. It is my job as a clinical therapist to uncover your internal experiences, and to discuss how we can use those experiences to manifest an emotionally balanced and positive outlook.

Designed by neuroscientist and psychiatrist, Dr. Stephen Porges Ph.D., The Safe and Sound Protocol (SSP) is an evidenced-based auditory intervention based on the Polyvagal Theory. This intervention helps one’s nervous system to get “unstuck” from: underactivity of the nervous system (e.g. depression, inattention, impulsivity, social inhibition), overactivity of the nervous system (e.g. anxiety, emotional dysregulation, sleep issues), and complex dysregulation (e.g. sensory issues, food sensitivity, trauma, social difficulties). It is a powerful adjunct to regular therapy, and can be done at home and on your own schedule.

As a psychotherapist, I know that efficient therapy only works in a warm and safe environment in order to help you get back on track or to find new balance in life. I believe that people can work through most problems in order to overcome negative thoughts or emotions they might be experiencing. It's important to make sufficient progress towards your own goals, while maintaining a focus on personal growth in treatment.

Throughout our existence, we all move through times that can bring an enormous amount of sadness, anxiety and disturbance. Perhaps the days add up, and we end up living much of our lives in this suffering. If we hold on and search, it is that deep self inside, the one just beneath the everyday routine, who can not only find the motivation to talk about these pains, but the inspiration to transform them into healing, meaning and purpose. When we take the lens and zoom in, every single one of us can find passion and vision. Joy and strength.

Sleep or Insomnia Therapists

How effective is treatment for insomnia?

The most effective treatments for insomnia are behavioral techniques that reduce anxiety, including anxiety about falling asleep, and allow the body’s natural cycles to be recalibrated. The most common treatment is cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), which researchers have found to be more useful than medication, with rates of success as high as 80 percent.

Are there specific medications for sleep problems?

There are many medications, both over-the-counter and prescription that treat sleep problems. Supplements such as melatonin are popular and may help, though there is little evidence that it is more effective than a placebo. Prescription medications such as zolpidem are sometimes prescribed.

Are there natural treatments for sleep problems?

There are many natural treatments for everyday sleep problems. Reducing blue-light emitting screens, setting a regular bedtime, regular exercise, reducing caffeine and nicotine consumption, and keeping the bedroom dark and cool at night are all lifestyle changes that can help those who struggle with sleep but may not reach the level of an insomnia diagnosis.

What’s the difference between having trouble falling asleep and insomnia?

Life events, stress, and anxiety can lead to sleepless nights for everyone from time to time. To be diagnosed with insomnia, a patient must experience trouble falling asleep, trouble remaining asleep, waking up too early, or non-restorative sleep at least three nights per week for at least one month. Sleep problems affect one-third to one-half of the population, while chronic insomnia affects about 10 to 15 percent of people.
