As a trained marriage therapist, I am deeply aware of the complicated and nuanced ways our relationships change through time.
“The most important confidence to have is confidence in your ability to persevere in the face of opposition.” Jennifer Finlayson-Fife, PhD. The pressure of our ever changing world and relationships often pushes us into unhelpful ways of coping and relating to those we love most. Sometimes, we need someone to see things with a fresh perspective, to help us see our strengths, and to open our eyes to the blind spots preventing the healing and progress we’re longing for. I offer individual and couples counseling, always looking to help clients move through the places they feel stuck and frustrated.

I use an emotional focused approach (EFT) to help heal our most important relationships, our marriage, and family.
Are you in your head worried too much? Are you reactive to those you are close to? Have you lost the security of your most important relationships? No longer have the same dreams, hopes, and ambitions? Your pain is real. Counseling works! I want everyone to know that you don't have to be at your rock bottom to seek help. Everyone benefits from going to counseling! Those you look up to most and you see as being at their very best, see a therapist, and have regular therapy sessions.

A pivotal time to try therapy is during young adulthood. It's a tough phase of life and it's not only challenging for the individual, but for their parents as well! There can be pressure in areas of sports, religion, school, and relationships, not to mention "what they're going to do with their life!" Transitioning into adulthood can be difficult, but I've seen it be a time of great progress for clients and their loved ones. I help clients find direction, learn to cope with anxiety, and find their own unique identity and strength. Don't wait too long to start living the life you want to be living.

Marriage Counseling Therapists

How does marriage counseling work?

Marriage counseling works by teaching couples concrete skills to communicate with one another and solve disagreements in healthy ways. A trained mental health professional works with both members of a couple to explore difficulties the couple may be having and helps them develop skills to address these matters. Couples who don’t have any difficulties but want to prepare for marriage may develop skills for the future.

How long does marriage counseling typically last?

Marriage counseling is a short-term form of therapy; the process may last between four and eight sessions. Other forms of relationship guidance from mental health professionals, such as couples therapy, are longer lasting, may focus on the past rather than just the present, and are tailored to the individual couple and their emotions, history, and patterns in the relationship. Couples therapy often lasts for 12 weeks or longer.

Is marriage counseling effective?

Marriage counseling helps many couples develop relationship skills that may not have been acquired or tested in a relationship; partners may be better able to communicate and address conflict following counseling. However, there are many different forms of marriage counseling, and this form of counseling does not have as strong an evidence base as other modalities such as couples therapy.

Is marriage counseling effective if only one partner wants to go?

Yes, marriage counseling can still be effective if one partner convinces the other to engage in the process. Of course, whether counseling is effective depends on the couple’s commitment to work on their relationship; however, the short-term, skills-based nature of marriage counseling makes it a relatively easy “ask” of a partner, and the hesitant individual may see its value once counseling begins.
