If you are feeling bad about yourself, your friends have noticed you are not always kind to yourself, or your self-consciousness is interfering with your life in a negative way then I can help. Negative self-talk, imposter syndrome, low self-esteem, and lack of self-confidence can interfere with how we show up in the world and ultimately hold us back from where we want to be. I enjoy working with teens and adults who are struggling to navigate these challenges, whether it's due to identity, body image, anxiety, grief or something else.

I am knowledgeable about crisis intervention and suicide prevention, and also have the ability to provide evidence-based treatment to children and adolescents impacted by trauma and their parents or caregivers and adults.
I'm glad you're here! I have openings for Telehealth counseling! We all face challenges and unfortunately, the expectation is - don't talk about it, avoid and distract from the fears and uncomfortable emotions that are triggered. If you're a parent or caregiver, that speaks to another layer of difficulty in coping with your own triggers, as well as what your child or other family member(s) may be struggling with! You are not alone and we are not meant to do life alone. Contact me to receive support to address issues related to ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Parenting challenges, Relationship Issues, Self-Harm & related safety concerns.

The therapy journey can be hard. Working towards your own personal evolution and transformation can be scary. I personally have worked with countless professionals who made me feel like this journey was going to be impossible and hopeless, and it's for this reason that I know how deeply you need a guide you can trust, someone who will walk with you through this experience every step of the way and make it as simple as possible. I have worked the majority of my career in emergency psychiatric medicine. I have spent the last 7 years working alongside law enforcement. Being in these intense situations has helped me to learn how to support people in crisis as well as skills people can use to avoid a crisis. I have a unique perspective into the stressors that law enforcement, first responders and veterans experience in their lines of work and hope to provide support to those who may not traditionally seek it out due to stigma or fear that people won't understand.

*NEW CLIENTS ACCEPTED via TELEHEALTH* Ever feel like you have a way to do something, and though it does not work the way it seems like it should, you feel it “works for you?” Do you find that you have a way of behaving and struggle to break free from yourself? I find that humans act in patterns. We think about a problem and act in a way that is the most comfortable to us and tend to repeat these patterns regardless of the result. I work with people living with depression, anxiety, trauma, anger concerns, separation/loss/grief issues, and people coping with discrimination.

Suicidal Ideation Therapists

How does therapy for suicidal ideation work?

Stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances can give rise to suicidal thinking. Therapy can address the events at the core of an individual’s suffering. Understanding why a person may be suicidal can help the therapist and the patient discover alternative methods of coping. A person with suicidal ideation may be mired in catastrophic thinking, and treatment like cognitive behavioral therapy is a good choice for breaking such patterns. In addition, treatment such as acceptance and commitment therapy can help a person manage their distress through better emotion regulation.

Which therapies are best for suicidal ideation?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, acceptance and commitment therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are two widely used therapies that can help individuals with painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual tolerate distress, regulate emotions, and not act on dangerous urges.

Are there specific medications to be combined with therapy?

The use of medication for suicidal thoughts must be aligned with the underlying cause; conditions such as depression, anxiety, and psychosis may be at the root of suicidal ideation. A psychiatrist may prescribe medications for symptoms, which may include antipsychotics such as aripiprazole or antidepressants such as selective serotonin reuptake inhibitors.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for suicidal ideation?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Patients may see improvement within 15 to 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, perhaps, a six-month period. Still other patients, especially those with co-occurring conditions like major depression and anxiety, may need to continue sessions for up to 12 to 18 months. In some cases, residential treatment may be recommended for an individual who is judged to be at high risk of self-harm.
