Navigating teen years can be challenging, both for teens and parents! Naturally, adolescence is a time of transition with changes in thoughts, emotions, and behaviors. These transitions bring symptoms of anxiety, depression, and unhealthy coping. I help teens to gain insight and provide a new perspective. My goal is for them to learn how to be more self-aware, manage stress, cope with changes, have healthy relationships, build a positive image, and handle difficult situations.

Many of my clients find relief in realizing that their struggle does not own them and that there are many options available to have hope again. In today’s society, emotional resiliency is a necessity, as stressors of everyday life can overwhelm, confuse, and disorient our minds. We struggle to be productive, feel fulfilled, and maintain healthy relationships with ourselves and others. Stress, anxiety, depression, loss, grief, and other adverse experiences can take a long-term toll on our health and overall happiness. We all strive to obtain this happiness, yet a great deal of us struggle to cope with daily tasks, and it can be even harder to make a positive change in our lives without proper motivation, validation, and support. That’s why I’m here!

My passion for working with individuals who struggle with disordered eating and anxiety began after my own battle with anorexia.
I personally understand the overwhelming pain and debilitating shame that often accompanies disordered eating, anxiety, depression and disrupted relationships. I also know that recovery is within reach, and I am here to help you get there. My hope is that every individual I am able to support feels connected, validated and has developed coping skills to manage the distress they are experiencing.

I have worked with trauma, anxiety, ambivalence, family discord, and identity issues.
You may have wondered if healing was ever in your reach. You may find yourself stuck, questioning, doubting, or experiencing things you never have before. Maybe you never thought life can be different or that healing and freedom was here for you, your relationships and family. I am here to create a safe space where healing, freedom, choice, and exploration can be found. A space where who you are and how you are is embraced, affirmed, welcomed and celebrated. The unknown is often the scariest. However, what I have found is that journeying into the unknown lies the greatest freedom.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
