My goal as a therapist is to help people gain a deeper understanding of their personal and interpersonal challenges that can often become obstacles in reaching their full potential I've been a psychotherapist for more than 30 years and have helped people develop healthier, more adaptive ways of handling their emotions. I believe in working with people in a very active and collaborative way whether it's addressing issues related to depression, anxiety, trauma or relationship issues. My fees are very reasonable and flexible because I believe everyone who needs psychotherapy should have the ability to have it.

In my life and in my work I have come to have an empathy and appreciation of the difficulties of being human, and of navigating relationships, work, interpersonal relationships and ourselves.
March 28, 2024. I have availability. For a number of years I assisted our community from my East Side office. Now I am available for telehealth services which is simple and means I can work with anyone in New York State. Give me a call, leave a message and I promise to return your call promptly.

As an interpersonal psychoanalyst, the patterns of a person's interpersonal relationships guides my exploration of my clients' desire for self-knowledge and personal growth.
I am a psychologist with a diverse practice. I work with individuals, couples, adolescents and families, and conduct a variety of psychotherapy groups. My style is informal, supportive and interactive. I have extensive experience working with issues related to addictive and compulsive behavior problems, relationship issues, identity issues, and many other areas of clinical concern. My first aim is to establish a mutually comfortable rapport to provide an atmosphere of openness and to make self exploration an experience that is satisfying and immediately helpful in both the short and long term.

Psychodynamic techniques can change more deeply rooted difficulties with self image and interpersonal relationships.
In my practice I try to customize the therapy to the needs of each individual patient--whether the person is looking for help with a short-term, acute crisis; a longer-term but more focused problem, such as depression or anxiety; or more deeply entrenched difficulties with identity, relationships, or general sense of direction and meaning in life. Regardless of the treatment approach used, however, all effective therapy is built on a foundation of trust, compassion and empathy. I therefore work to build a collaborative relationship with my patients, so we can work together to achieve agreed-upon goals.

Couples in crisis,or quietly losing their way, have come to me for help in strengthening their relationships in a neutral, supportive atmosphere. I also have extensive experience with individuals (adult and children) and families. In crisis, short term or long term therapy, I am quite familiar with issues of depression, anxiety, work, or family stress. Many clients contact me regarding concerns about isolation, sexual identity, mood swings, and interpersonal relationships . Men, who often seek out therapy less readily than women, are well represented in my practice. People in the arts also occupy a large part of my work.

I work through a psychodynamic framework, integrating attachment-based, cognitive-behavioral, and interpersonal practices.
Everyone goes through difficulties in life, and it helps to have a nonjudgemental person to talk about those struggles. As a therapist, I help others find meaning in the difficulties they are experiencing, and strive to create a safe, secure, and trusting environment for individuals to be able to explore why they are feeling the way they are.

I work with individuals from 19 to 70+, integrating psychodynamic, self-psychological, interpersonal, relational and cognitive perspectives.
I have a warm, empathic and interactive, but non-directive style. I believe everyone has the power to heal within themselves and that my role is to assist people in accessing that power in the most caring, respectful way possible. My ability to be attuned to clients in all stages of life, as well as my openness to new ways of working and my extensive self-exploration are, I believe, my major strengths.

My basic premise is interpersonal and interactive.
I have a lot of experience and enjoy working with young adults with self esteem problems, relationship issues, difficulty finding direction in their lives. Growing up in France and moving to the US as a young adult I am keenly aware of issues of adaptation. My personal experience as a child survivor of the Holocaust during WWII in France has also sensitized me to issues of trauma, to struggles to adaptation, to courage and perseverance. I especially liked an aspect of US outlook on life which provided possibility and flexibility in life choices

29 years experience helping adults, couples and families understand and address the sources of conflict in their interpersonal relationships and daily professional lives. The primary therapeutic goal is to effectively manage the negative emotions (such as low self-esteem, anger, anxiety and depression) which interfere with quality of life and achievement of personal and professional goals, inclusive of LBGQT life challenges. Pets are family too and an integral part of one's life and routine. The loss of a pet can be devastating. Hence, I also offer pet bereavement counseling.

Interpersonal Therapists

Is interpersonal therapy evidence-based?

Studies have found interpersonal therapy to be effective for life transitions including retirement, divorce, and job loss. Also, some studies have found it to be just as useful as medication and other therapy approaches. The benefits of interpersonal therapy can last long after treatment has been completed; the individual can use the tenets of this therapy throughout their life.

How long does interpersonal therapy take?

Interpersonal psychotherapy is normally time-limited and focuses on specific problems in the client’s everyday relationships. Treatment can be either one-on-one or take place in a group setting; it tends to last 12 to 16 weeks, depending on the individual client’s needs. If a new interpersonal problem arises in the future, the client may require additional therapy to address it specifically. The timeline and session schedule may vary depending on the client’s challenges as well as their progress. Treatment may conclude with wrap-up sessions to review the client’s accomplishments.

Is interpersonal therapy effective?

Research shows that interpersonal therapy can help someone manage or reduce symptoms of conditions such as depression or anxiety. The approach may also offer a range of benefits that are hard to measure but valuable—including healthier relationships and improved feelings of self-worth. The therapist will give the client practical solutions that can be put into practice. The brief duration of this therapy also means that clients can see changes in their relationships fairly quickly.

What are the limitations of interpersonal therapy?

Interpersonal therapy may not effectively treat certain mental health conditions such as psychosis, chronic illness, or alcohol relapse. Because it is short-term in nature, it may not be the best approach for conditions that need to be tracked, though maintenance sessions are a viable approach under these circumstances.

Can interpersonal psychotherapy be done online?

Yes, interpersonal psychotherapy can be conducted effectively either in-person or online. A therapist with expertise in IPT will be able to adjust their techniques, such as role-playing, to better suit the online environment. Offering online IPT can make it more accessible for clients who have transportation difficulties; it also provides the ideal opportunity to explore challenges unique to digital relationships.
