To do this I utilize IFS, Attachment, and somatic therapy.
Are you looking for a therapist that you can relate to and feel safe with? Have you tried therapy a few times but felt like you never got anywhere? Or maybe its your first time and you're not sure what you're looking for. If that's you, you are exactly where you need to be. I meet clients where they are and help them navigate difficult feelings, process trauma, and find enjoyment in life. By reaching out, you're overcoming the scary first step in working towards inner healing, greater self understanding, and finding meaning in life. You don't have to do this alone. Let's work together to help you be the best version of yourself.

We are all in this together. Counseling is a collaborative process of exploration and experimentation leading to new ways of engaging with ourselves, the people around us, and the world as a whole. By learning how our past shaped our survival skills and beliefs, we create the possibility of acceptance, growth and change. Our society is troubled in many ways, and this is a place to take stock, try a different approach, and plant the seeds of change for ourselves and others. I have over 20 years of experience in mental health, with a focus on EMDR, Internal Family Systems, Motivational Interviewing, CBT and Mindfulness.

I am BilinguaI (Spanish) and formally trained in Internal Family Systems Levels 1 & 2 through the IFS Institute.
Everyone carries emotions, memories, and sensations from difficult experiences, and consequently there are parts of you (i.e. behaviors, thought patterns, etc) that work very hard to help keep you safe. I welcome every part of you. Together we will hold space for your pain without rushing to distract, avoid or escape from it and my goal is to help you access the active healing presence inside. Please know, I personally understand that being a person of color poses many challenges in this country and seeking support from clinicians who don't look like you or talk like you makes it far more difficult. I see you and I'm here for you.

I specialize in trauma informed care and Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapy.
I imagine that you are looking for a safe and trusting place to explore some of the issues that lead you to seek therapy. You may be seeking a non-pathologizing framework to help you focus inward and acknowledge how the burdens from the past might be playing a role in your current life. You may also be seeking a place to explore the meaning of your life and who you are at the core. I seek to offer a space for you to access a deeper understanding of yourself.

I use EMDR, IFS, and Polyvagal Theory in my work to help clients regulate their nervous systems.
We all encounter situations that feel overwhelming and test our coping abilities. I see therapy as a collaborative process that will help you navigate the challenges and transitions that life presents. I offer a safe, supportive environment to talk about issues that can be difficult to discuss elsewhere. Together we will explore how certain thoughts, behavior patterns, and past experiences might be contributing to your difficulties. We will identify your strengths and figure out effective coping strategies to create positive changes in your life. I work with adults, adolescents, and couples.

I most often weave in the following: psychodynamic exploration, Somatic Experiencing (SE), parts work informed by Internal Family Systems (IFS), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) skill-building and mindfulness.
With a therapeutic style that is gentle, warm, relational, strengths-based and informed by values of compassion and anti-oppression, I collaborate with clients as they move towards their goals and desires. The clients I work with are often learning to cultivate healthy relationships, healing trauma, tending to anxiety, depression and neurodivergence (often late-diagnosed ADHD and/or autism), exploring identity (racial, gender, sexual etc.), grieving a loss, and/or cultivating a stronger sense of self-worth. If you would like to learn more, I would be happy to schedule a free consultation call!

Our sessions will involve elements of cognitive/behavioral, internal family systems, emotion-focused, mindfulness, and somatic therapy.
Deeper presence, ease, and connection are possible. Together we can explore ways you may have developed patterns and stories in your life that have taught you to disconnect, shutdown, and constrict your vitality and passion. My work with you will help you remember and connect to your most wise and compassionate self in order to observe and unravel habits and behaviors that may be getting in the way of living according to your deepest goals and values. I am grounded in a holistic framework, which means we will integrate thoughts, emotions and physical sensations in the moment.

My goal as a therapist is to assist clients in living healthy, fulfilling lives. I do this through helping clients identify goals they want to work toward, personal strengths on which they can build, skills they want to develop, and barriers they want to overcome. My work is client-centered and strengths-based, recognizing that change often takes time, hard work, and patience. Thus, I move with clients at their pace, knowing that recovery looks different for everyone and that there isn’t one approach to fit all clients. As a therapist, I strive to create a safe space for clients so they can develop trust and evaluate their life.

Internal Family Systems (IFS) Therapists

What is Internal Family Systems therapy?

Internal Family Systems (IFS) is a type of talk therapy that focuses on sub-personalities, or “families,” within a person, which may be made up of wounded parts and unpleasant emotions like anger and shame. These sub-personalities can come into conflict with each other and with an individual’s core Self, leaving the person feeling detached from positive traits such as the “8 C’s” of confidence, calmness, creativity, clarity, curiosity, courage, compassion, and connectedness. By healing a patient’s wounded parts, a therapist aims to restore balance and bring on positive change.

How does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

An IFS therapist will work with a patient to identify their particular sub-personalities, recognize the emotions powering them, and release them. By doing so, the patient should become more able to address any underlying problems their sub-personalities may have been trying to protect them from. Ultimately, a patient discovers ways to manage internal and external conflicts on their own, through techniques such as relaxation exercises, journaling, and making charts depicting the relationships between their core Self and their distinct parts.

Does Internal Family Systems therapy work?

IFS therapy has been shown to help people address conditions such as depression, anxiety, panic, fears and phobias, trauma, and substance use disorders. Some research has also found that it can help individuals deal with symptoms of physical health conditions like rheumatoid arthritis, such as pain, everyday functioning, depressive feelings, and low self-compassion. There are some conditions for which IFS treatment, specifically discussions of one’s “parts,” may be less appropriate, such as schizophrenia or other states that involve psychosis or paranoia.

How long does Internal Family Systems therapy take?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for IFS therapy. After becoming comfortable with a therapist and the core concepts of IFS, some patients quickly make progress. While experiences vary, most will find that it is a relatively longer-term therapy, involving months and sometimes years of sessions.
