I use Experiential therapy including Satir’s Transformational Systemic Therapy (STST), & Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT) from a systemic & feminist lens, to help clients process current & past events in their lives.
Relationships can be difficult. Whether it is familial, romantic or platonic, each of us is the sum of all the experiences, communities, and cultures we have been involved in and around our entire lives. We often struggle to understand how to effectively communicate, as well as making and keeping connections.

I will help navigate the therapeutic process with therapeutic techniques that include a Client Centered, Feminist, Cognitive Behavioral, Humanistic, Interpersonal, Motivational Interviewing, Solution Focused Brief, and Trauma Focused method.
I believe that being the best version of ourselves requires work including connecting with emotions, thoughts and behaviors that at times may be uncomfortable to address. I strive to meet my clients where they are at in their journey by creating a safe, non-judgmental and empathetic relationship with my clients. At times, it may feel as though one is having difficulty changing patterns of behavior or overcoming life's challenges, I help to guide change to develop a more self-aware and engaged sense of self through a collaborative approach with the client and therapist relationship.

As an intern, I am learning who my ideal client might be, so I am open to meeting people across the board. Some of my particular areas of expertise and interest are with teenagers (especially those in the LGBTQ+ community) and those whose jobs in public service might make work/life balance difficult (such as educators or librarians). I'm interested in working on issues of anxiety, grief, life/career transitions, new parenthood, body acceptance, and more. I see my work as helping you become the best you can while understanding and navigating what might be keeping you challenged through a feminist, socially just, and systemic lens.

While rooted in psychodynamic theory, my approach is integrative and borrows from CBT, DBT, existential, feminist, and person-centered theories depending on the needs of each client.
Are you struggling with symptoms of depression or anxiety? Maybe you are going through major life changes like pregnancy, birth, new motherhood, relationship struggles, divorce, or just looking to reconnect with yourself. Reaching out for help is a positive first step toward change. I will provide a safe space where you are validated and seen. The therapeutic relationship is the most significant predictor of healing and growth. I strive to build a warm and authentic rapport with every client so you feel safe enough to be vulnerable and connect with your inner self and story and effect positive change in your life.

Within a Health At Every Size (HAES), intersectional feminist framework, I want to help you develop peace with your body and with food.
Are you tired of obsessing over food and weight? There are so many messages that make us feel like we need to control our body size, above all else. Trying to figure out how to be healthy and take care of yourself can feel like an exhausting, uphill battle. It's not your fault and you don’t have to go through it alone. Wherever you are in your treatment process - if you have an eating disorder or are concerned about your body, your weight or food - I can consult to help you decide your next step. Therapy isn't just for those with a diagnosable eating disorder. If your relationship with your food is distressing, you may need support.

I draw from a person-centered, multicultural and feminist framework.
Are you navigating identity concerns or your relationships with others and may be wondering what a healthy friendship or relationship looks like for you? Maybe you just feel “off” and can’t pinpoint if it is anxiety, stress, fear or something on the other end of the spectrum. Though you may be navigating these concerns, you are willing to take a closer look at how it is impacting your life and you want to learn how to do more than cope, you want to thrive. You want to be able to understand what you are experiencing and how you may advocate for yourself within the counseling space and outside of it.

My therapeutic approach is based in narrative and feminist therapies and focuses on the strengths that the client brings to the therapy room.
Are you feeling like it’s hard to authentically be yourself or connect with others? As a relational therapist, I recognize that our connections are the basis of both the greatest struggles and the greatest rewards we can know as humans. I specialize in work with couples, families, and individuals who have "non-traditional" relationships and sexualities. My work with clients is open and collaborative, often using narrative therapy, attachment theory, and systems theory to help people flesh out their sense of identity and strengths. You can expect transparency, a culturally-attuned lens, and a little humor in therapy with me.

Life can be filled with challenging experiences and obstacles that leave us feeling hopeless, worried, restless, frustrated or even stuck. Sometimes we feel lost and confused about our purpose in life. Other times we can feel unsettled and consumed with worry. Maybe you even feel powerless, like you're going through the motions of the day under a gray cloud and can't seem to find the energy to move forward. If this resonates, I will help you process your feelings, guide you through useful coping strategies and ultimately work alongside you to reach your therapeutic goals.

To schedule sessions, please book a call with our Client Care Coordinator here: www.calendly.com/adminccbh. Oftentimes women, especially working mothers, walk around feeling like something is wrong with them. We’re overwhelmed, stressed to the max, have too much on our plates, not enough support, we exhaust ourselves trying to keep up and we feel like we’re the only ones struggling. But we aren’t. As a CEO, mother and wife, Dr. Cira understands what so many women and mothers are struggling with on a day-to-day basis. And when women begin to understand that they are not the problem, life gets a lot easier.

Hi, I’m Gabriela (she/ her/ ella)! Our work in therapy is about the core essence of what it means to be human, to love, to hurt, to hurt others, and to help. I am rooting for you! I know that what brings you here may feel overwhelming, but this is the first step. I believe therapy should be collaborative and inclusive. I bring a lot of energy and humor as well as compassion and understanding to my sessions.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
