At times a crisis, trauma, or series of compounding stressors can overwhelm one’s normal resilience and ability to cope. Professional therapy provides help in navigating through these difficult times, and the process can create lasting insight leading to a richer, more satisfying life. I believe as a clinical therapist, my responsibility is to provide a space where clients feel safe, valued and heard. I appreciate the uniqueness of each of my clients, and see the therapy process as a collaboration, where patterns of thinking and behavior are explored in an effort to bring about change.

In today’s world, many tasks and responsibilities can easily become overwhelming as life throws us unexpected obstacles. We can become anxious, depressed, hopeless, feeling like there is no rhyme or reason to what we are going through, to what we are thinking and feeling, or even to life itself. We might choose to escape from our problems, angst, a sense of void, our past, or our daily thoughts through indulging in external gratifications, by using drugs and alcohol, sex, relationships, or other means. We often get stuck in our thinking, consumed by negative self-talk and perceptions of ourselves.

My experience working amongst a diverse cross-section of Chicago communities has shown me the intertwined nature of individual personal health and emotional well-being. It has also shown me the unique and complicated ways in which social forces affect people and the communities in which they live. The resulting anxiety, depression, and trauma become barriers to thrive. However, after witnessing the resilience of people who endure these many life challenges, I am passionate about working alongside them. Everyone deserves support. I believe in creating spaces and communities that provide this for us all.

I recognize and understand that anxiety, depression, trauma, and the compounding effects of those experiences can cause a sense of helplessness. Through my own human experience as well as serving in this setting. I recognize issues of ambiguity and recovery from problems that involve the mind, emotions, and spirit are long and arduous. The important piece is to keep these things in front of us as we relearn healthy skills to engage fully with life. We also must hold on to the understanding that we are solely responsible for our overall well-being.

Were happy to help with complex differential diagnoses associated with development in early childhood, adolescent and adults. We assist with understanding the complexity to guide medication management and future treatment in regards to developmental factors, traumatic brain injuries, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder, autism spectrum disorder and Asperger's disorder. An appropriate evaluation can help decrease stress in one's life, and will help an individual meet future goals by understanding personal strength and weaknesses.

I start with a thorough assessment of your current concerns. I take a broad-minded, non-judgmental approach to understanding what you are looking for help with. I try to be helpful by offering feedback and new perspectives and insights. I understand that you have probably already attempted several ways to address your concerns and by now you are most likely frustrated and worried. I will take a proactive and positive approach to your participation by helping you identify your personal strengths and assets that you can then use to develop a new and better response to your concerns.

Hi there! Thanks for taking a peek at my profile. I enjoy working with all ages. For children I unfortunately am not seeing any via telehealth. When it comes to teens and adolescents I focus on building the relationship first and foremost since it is the most important part of therapy no matter what age. From there we really explore and process their current needs and focus on values to attach therapeutic goals to. As I work with adults the same process happens in tandem with mindful self compassion training to help loosen the grips of anxiety and other identity struggles. I like to help client even when they're unsure of their goal

I value focusing on meeting basic needs, developing and executing goals, and providing a space for therapeutic processing. In my clinical practice, I focus on processing and navigating complex trauma and how it affects behavior and wellness. I also offer support to individuals who have relationship concerns, symptoms of anxiety or depression, and uncertainty about their future. Historically, I have worked with individuals who have been impacted by the legal system and can offer clinical case management and accompaniment to individuals who are dealing with criminal and civil-related legal cases.

Cognitive Processing (CPT) Therapists

How does cognitive processing therapy work?

A CPT therapist helps a client evaluate their thoughts about the trauma they experienced, focusing on maladaptive or self-blaming thoughts that can exacerbate symptoms of PTSD, anxiety, or depression. The therapist will work with a client to help them learn to challenge such thoughts and consider different perspectives. The therapist is also likely to ask a client to work on these techniques at home between meetings, such as writing an account of their trauma that can be read aloud during a future session.

What is cognitive processing therapy for PTSD?

Cognitive processing therapy (CPT) is a form of cognitive-behavioral therapy primarily used in the treatment of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to treat individuals who experienced abuse or violence, who survived natural disasters, who were first responders to such incidents, or who otherwise experienced trauma.

How long does cognitive processing therapy last?

CPT is a short-term therapy. Whether conducted one-on-one or in a group, a complete set of CPT sessions typically includes 12 weekly sessions, along with tasks for clients to complete at home, although this can vary depending on a client’s needs or a therapist’s particular treatment plan. Sessions typically last 60 or 90 minutes.

How effective is cognitive processing therapy?

A large body of research supports the use of CPT to treat people experiencing PTSD, finding it to be effective among different age groups, either in one-on-one therapy sessions or in a group therapy environment. Research suggests that although the initial sessions may be difficult, clients tend to begin to feel positive progress after the first few sessions, and that the benefits tend to last well after the therapy ends.
