I am a firm believer that making the decision to address your issues takes a great deal of courage and bravery. Many of us come from circumstances or environments that encourage us to push through pain by burying it, outworking it, or avoiding it. While these coping skills help us to survive, they don't necessarily encourage us to thrive. As a therapist with psychodynamic training and extensive life coaching experience, it is important to me that our sessions focus on identifying where core issues are coming from, encourage collaborative problem solving, as well as create space for intentional goal setting.

When we develop a deeper understanding of the way we see and are seen by the world, we can learn what our soul needs and leave behind what no longer serves us. Navigating current patterns and challenges can be an uncomfortable yet powerful process in manifesting the self-betterment we all deserve. By exploring the underlying factors that impact who we are, we can lean into the empowerment of self-discovery, reclaim a sense of agency within ourselves and our relationships, and learn how to give ourselves grace along the way.

My passion is to help you feel heard, understood, and hopeful about the possibility of change. You'd be surprised by how much better you may feel after just a few sessions, either in-person or tele-health. I specialize in working with clients who are struggling with a number of things at the same time (such as life transitions, anxiety, trauma). My ideal client is someone who is interested in going below surface issues, and- potentially- including some "body-up" work in their therapy.

I love working with children, the inner child in every adult and couples. I particularly specialize in working with trauma, anxiety, depression, developmental delays, ADHD and behavior issues. I take a warm, collaborative and judgement-free approach. I’ll include you in your treatment planning because I think you’ll be more invested in a plan if you had a part in creating it.

People seek out a counselor who can guide them--or their child--past their struggles to a better life. They want to get better sooner and stay better longer. For over 20 years, I have had the privilege of helping hundreds of adults, children and adolescents move past problems and achieve their goals --and to make those improvements stick. Some clients face coping with frustration, depression, anxiety, or relationship and family problems. For others, it's dealing with transitions such as divorce, loss and grief, school or relationship challenges, medical problems or job loss. And clients deserve great service.

There are few places where we can be fully understood and make sense of our experiences. Life can take us in directions we did not anticipate and we may need a reflective and accepting environment to reconnect to our true selves. Whether there are small stressors or lifetime traumas, therapy is an environment that is dedicated to feeling and coping better.

Therapy can be a space to make sense of the past, make goals for the future, or problem-solve challenges as they arise. I use a strengths-based, solution-focused approach to help clients identify their needs and explore their potential. I believe as we turn our focus inward and ground ourselves, we find empowerment and clarity. The cornerstone of my practice is empathy for my clients, and I feel that change happens when there is a strong and supportive therapeutic relationship.

Adoption Therapists
Does my adopted child need therapy?
Not every adopted child needs therapy. However, many can benefit from seeing an adoption-informed therapist, especially if they were victims of abuse or neglect, appear withdrawn or disconnected, have behavioral or developmental issues (which may or may not be related to their adoption), are struggling with feelings of grief or loss surrounding their birth parents, or find it difficult to establish an identity, a challenge that often becomes most apparent during adolescence.
When should adoptive parents seek therapy?
Prospective parents can benefit from therapy even before an adoption—for example, to voice worries and fears; to reconcile infertility struggles, if relevant; or simply to prepare themselves for parenthood. After the adoption, parents who are struggling to bond with their child; are unsure how to talk about adoption or related issues, such as race; or whose child is dealing with developmental, behavioral, or psychiatric concerns can address these and other issues with the help of an adoption-competent therapist.
Is family therapy appropriate for adoptive families?
Family therapy can be invaluable for strengthening the bond between adoptive parents and children, helping the latter feel more secure in their place in the family. Family therapy can also help adoptive families navigate complex communication issues—for example, parents who feel uncomfortable discussing race with their child, who in turn feels invalidated by their silence, or a child who has questions about his birth parents but avoids asking them out of fear of hurting his adoptive parents’ feelings.
What therapy is not appropriate for adoption issues?
A discredited therapy known as “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy” or “rebirthing therapy”) should not be used to treat adopted and foster children, though it was largely designed for this population. Attachment therapy involves restraining, coercing, and punishing the child in order for them to “release” negative emotions and attach to their new caregivers—techniques that are abusive and dangerous and have even proven fatal in some cases.
