I have worked with individual and couples for over thirty years, providing down-to-earth, compassionate counseling with issues such as depression, anxiety, loss, major life transitions, codependency, and trauma.
There are times in all our lives when our usual coping skills aren’t enough to manage serious and challenging life situations. I work to help clients develop tools to resolve the immediate problem that brought them to counseling, while also identifying and changing underlying beliefs and unhealthy patterns that may be creating problems in their lives and their relationships.

I specialize in working with teenagers and young adults as well as people experiencing a loss, going through a transition, or anyone wanting to be the best self they can be.
Do you wish you liked yourself better? Is it uncomfortable standing in your own shoes? Are you your own worst enemy? So often we carry around negative messages about ourselves that may not even be true. Nonetheless, they affect our lives on a daily basis. They may prevent us from entering healthy relationships. They may keep us from trying something new. They may hold us back in our career, or they may leave us feeling hopelessly anxious or depressed.

I have over twenty years experience and serve a broad spectrum of clients. I see myself as very interactive. I provide support, and practical feedback to help clients effectively address personal life challenges. I help clients to confront interpersonal patterns, that were often developed early in life as self-protective, but now get in the way of their connections with self and others. I work with couples to help stop the blaming/shaming cycles that can develop from feeling misunderstood.

My expertise is working with trauma, grief & sexual abuse of children, teens and adults using trauma focused CBT, EMDR, Brain Spotting &play therapy.
My experience comes from 31 years of helping children, adults, couples and families in both Community Mental Health and Private Practice. My approach is eclectic and tailored to each individual's needs to facilitate healing and growth. Through my years of experience I have witnessed over and over again people coming into therapy with great pain, discomfort and despair but with time, (sometimes within a very short time) their symptoms diminish and a whole new person emerges. Crisis times can be extremely painful and distressful but they can also be opportunities for growth and healing through therapy.

I have been in practice 40 yearsOver time, my work has expanded from exclusive focus on treating adult children of alcoholics, to include- eating disorders, families of bipolar patients, academic underachievement, depression/ anxiety, trauma, and grief. Often these issues are interrelated, and sometimes the singular matter. Women-in-transition groups have also been a mainstay of my practice. Recently, I included hypnotherapy to deepen the experience where appropriate. As the practice continues to grow, I'm reminded daily that it is my life's privilege to work with families and individuals, helping in the growth and healing process.

Grief Therapists
How long does therapy take for grief?
There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.
When should you seek therapy for grief?
Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.
Can grief be managed without therapy?
Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.
What happens if grief is left untreated?
Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
