My goal is to walk with you through transitions, helping you navigate the challenges, stressors, and fears related to moving forward from a relationship, a job/career, or the loss or shift in identity. I aim to support you in the process of (re)discovering yourself in these transitions, especially when faced with questions about sexuality, expression, and roles in your daily life. Together, we will explore new perspectives and unknowns in transitions, helping to equip you with the confidence to progress, uncovering patterns, parts, and habits that may no longer serve you in their current state.

I also work adults who experienced the loss of a parent too early in their lives.
When you are suffering, it helps to have a support and guidance to find a new way forward. My clients find it easy to talk to me and feel understood. Healing happens within a safe space where you can speak openly about your pain and explore yourself deeply. Through this work new ways of being unfold. My training as a Jungian Psychoanalyst enables me to work closely with clients to explore dreams and creative images as well as their daily lives and history. I bring my full presence, sense of humor, intuition, and spiritual understanding to the therapeutic process.

I specialize in helping people cope with grief and loss in a healthy way.
Have you lost someone you love? Maybe they passed away, or maybe they are still around, but the situation has changed. You might feel lost and confused, as though you are a stranger in your own life. Standing in the sun, you feel chilled and alone. Or you may feel relatively well, but deep down you know there is "a lot to process". You can stuff your feelings, but it won't be so simple to move on. You want to feel healthy, comfortable, to UNDERSTAND, and know that you can not only survive this experience but also transform it, transcend it, and make peace with your demons.

We go to therapy for many reasons: to untangle old patterns, to seek relief from emotional pain, to move through grief, to develop our capacity in relationships, to know ourselves more deeply. Everyone’s therapy experience is unique to them. Some of the ways that we might work together include: exploring what you feel and how you express it, noticing how your past experiences are influencing your present, and what calls your attention when it has space to be heard. We will have the opportunity to slow down dynamics and work with them. This is all approached with curiosity, collaboration, and compassion.

I work with adults who are going through life transitions or are dealing with unresolved trauma and grief.
Hello, my name is Maria Baldasseroni, I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist practicing in the state of California. I see the journey taken in psychotherapy as one of the most important journeys one can take for self-discovery and sense of self-empowerment. I also firmly believe that the first step toward creating a healthy environment that nourishes healthy relationships starts with the ability to look within and create a safe space where to practice self-compassion and self-love.

I work well with people who want to understand themselves better through an interactive process that invites lasting change. I am a good match for people who are complex, creative, analytical, or sensitive, or for anyone who might identify as an outsider.

I am strongly psychodynamic, and practice psychoanalytic and trauma-informed psychotherapy to treat a wide-range of complex patterns from anxiety, trauma, grief and loss to addiction and PTSD.
Thanks for checking out my profile. My approach to working with you in therapy would encompass all registers of your experience, including non-verbal communication, the body, and the mind. In my way of working, developing an understanding of where and how feelings are actually felt is as important as understanding cognitive distortions and negative thought patterns. I listen to every which way you communicate. Psychotherapy can be used in myriad ways, short or long-term. Often when distressing symptoms have abated, psychotherapy shifts to become something more deeply self-reflective and meaningful.

In life we can sometimes feel stuck in old patterns. Or maybe our sleep, eating, or job performance has changed. Mood, physical health, and mental health are all connected. Brain fog, tiredness, loss of interest (or sleepless nights, jittery days, etc) can mean the balance is off. These are times when therapy can help you understand the issues from a new point of view. Primarily, I see my job as one of listener and guide. Together, we can figure out what's keeping you from being a joyful resilient person. It takes courage and strength to ask for help. I am here if you are curious or ready to begin.

Some of my specialties include treating depression, difficult life transitions, grief and loss, and relationship problems.
Maybe you've been struggling to feel like yourself for a while now, and have been hesitant to reach out for help. I'm glad you're here. Sometimes life loses its spark and sense of meaning and it's hard to find the way. Life can feel like a heavy burden, with feelings of hopelessness, sadness, or meaninglessness. Maybe you no longer want to participate in the things you once enjoyed. You find yourself isolating, or avoiding life. If you're tired of struggling and feeling bad about yourself and life, I can help. While these circumstances may have been the past, it doesn’t need to be your future.

Do you struggle with depression, anxiety, and trauma? Do you experience difficulties managing family and relationship issues? I believe that healing happens when we pay attention to all the parts that make us whole—our mind, body, and soul. The subconscious mind controls most of our reality and choices, so building awareness and active presence can improve the quality of daily living and assist in not only surviving, but thriving through life. As an intuitive & holistic therapist, I will assist you in strengthening your inner psyche and developing new tools to manage negative feelings and thoughts.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
