I specialize in LGBTQ+ therapy for individuals, couples, and families.
As a Marriage and Family Therapist and Gallup Certified Strengths Coach, I believe that therapy is a journey that can provide valuable perspective and facilitate healing. In my sessions, I aim to create a supportive and safe environment where my clients can work to reclaim their lives from fear, pain, and hopelessness. By exploring the systems, families, and relationships that shape their experiences, my clients can gain insight into their inner selves and learn how to cope with past traumas and current stressors. Together, we can work towards moving forward rather than remaining stuck.

We help teens and adults with challenges and life transitions through a holistic approach that supports an individual's overall wellness.
I understand that anxiety and OCD often feel overwhelming and isolating; how it is often difficult to explain the relentlessness of intrusive thoughts and worry. I recognize that OCD is a lot more than the compulsions people can see and how the constant worry gets in the way of all you want to do. In working with me you will feel understood and learn the tools necessary to reclaim your life. Everyone's version of healing is different and I am here to be a guide as we create your own path forward. I am dedicated to helping you free yourself from the cycle of worry and doubt.

I believe that therapy can develop non-judgmental awareness of what we face in the present, of thoughts and feelings that are based on conditioned reactions from our past, and of the ability to then cultivate the inner freedom that allows us to move into a future grounded in experience and directed at a positive and compassionate understanding of ourselves and of others. Developing the ability to be aware is a practice that each client learns and practices according to their needs, interests, and learning styles. There is no ideal client, there is only the commitment to practice awareness and find freedom from the past.

Does no one get how anxious, frustrated or checked out you feel? It's so hard to be misunderstood. Trauma, family pressure, relationship issues; these things can have you stuck in a cycle of unhappiness. These experiences may even have you anxious, depressed, and seeking relief through using substances. You’ve tried everything you can to address issues on your own and you want someone to actually help you. Despite it being hard, you're willing to ask for help. I want you to know that you can feel more connected, whole, energized, and fulfilled. I am dedicated to helping you, using somatic therapy to link the mind, body and spirit.

Life is not always easy, and often feels unfair. Whether you are suffering with depression, difficulty adjusting to change or struggling with an eating disorder, I believe that there is light at the end of the tunnel. Acceptance and change take courage, and nothing is harder than asking for help - but if you are searching for a therapist, then you have taken that first step towards healing and moving forward.

I am genuine with my clients, and prioritize developing a relationship in which they feel consistently supported and challenged. I have been practicing short and long-term therapy since 2006, and work collaboratively with my clients to guide them to a better understanding of the presenting issue, to highlight their strengths and resources, and to help them to identify other ways of approaching complex problems. Psychotherapy can be the first step towards developing insight into our problems, allowing for symptom relief and for creating more possibilities for meaningful experiences in our lives.

Each of us have faced painful personal experiences. Pain can be due to events, interactions with others or troubled relationships. Or they can be caused by negative behavior or thought patterns that won’t stop. Sometimes we can address such troubles on their own. However, if you have been unable to resolve difficult issues alone, you may realize how they reduce the quality of your life – by establishing a pattern of emotional problems, an inability to interact productively with others, impacting your career, negatively affect relationships, or create problematic habits. But they can be addressed with help. My hours are M-F 8-4

Since my youth, my passion has been to do the work I am doing, and I have been preparing and improving my skills toward that end. My goal is to enable clients to feel heard, identify potential causes for their concerns, create a treatment plan, and collaborate with them in their healing. My greatest satisfaction is working with clients to enable their highest potential, and their greatest strength, wisdom, and serenity. I work to develop a deep understanding of a client's perspective, then engage and join with the client to move forward from there. LGBTQ+ Therapists

Do LGBTQ-affirmative therapists receive special training?

Yes. Many therapists who practice LGBTQ-affirmative therapy have completed specialized training, either during their degree program or as continuing education, to learn the core principles of affirmative therapy and how to best support their LGBTQ clients; some have received certifications in LGBTQ-affirmative therapy. Prospective clients should inquire as to a clinician’s background and training to ensure a good fit.

Why might I want to see an LGBTQ-affirming or LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

Queer and gender-non-conforming individuals frequently experience bias and marginalization in day-to-day life. Working with a therapist who understands these unique challenges, as well as accepts and affirms their identity, can help LGBTQ clients feel safe and supported during therapy—allowing them to better navigate their relationships, mental health, and anything else that they wish to explore during therapy. It is important to note that many therapists can be effective in their work with LGBTQ+ individuals, even in the absence of specific training or background knowledge. The most important component in therapy is the alliance between therapist and client, and this alliance can exist between individuals with very different backgrounds.

How can I find an LGBTQ-friendly therapist?

You may wish to inquire about a therapist’s expertise with your specific challenges or concerns—depression, for example, or relationship strife—as well as their past experiences treating LGBTQ+ clients. Prospective clients may also ask whether a therapist has obtained additional training and/or certification in LGBTQ-affirmative techniques.

How can I inquire about a therapist’s experience with LGBTQ issues?

Prospective clients should feel empowered to directly ask therapists whether they have received training or been certified in LGBTQ-affirming therapy; competent therapists will be happy to explain their educational background and preferred approach(es) to help a client find the best match for them. Clients may also wish to ask how a therapist has treated clients with their particular challenges in the past and what they expect treatment to look like.

Are all the therapists listed in the LGBTQ directory themselves members of the LGBTQ community?

While therapists may choose to disclose their sexual orientation or gender identity in their profiles, the LGBTQ directory features not only those who have shared this information but also those who assert specialized training or experience in providing support to queer individuals, couples or families.
