How do I choose the best one for me? It can be tough to figure out the counselor for you. You expect a counselor to guide, listen & help you to understand things that are hard for you to understand on your own. Choosing someone during a time when you likely feel fearful & confused makes it harder. I suggest calling a few counselors & asking how they can help you change. See if their way of doing counseling would be good for you. Also you may know other people who have been satisfied with their counseling journey with someone they can recommend. Let's get together and decide what your goals are and how I can help you achieve them!

Therapeutic spaces are one of the most unique environments we can engage with for support that is individual to us. Your personhood deserves to be nurtured in a place where you can be unequivocally yourself. Whether you are experiencing significant stressors, going through life transitions, or wanting a secure place to self-explore, therapy could be your starting point.

I became a Marriage and Family Therapist because I enjoy processing with individuals and listening to personal journeys to find a resolution. I was a High School performance art major and find this skill set benefical in providing supports through visual cues using various therapeutic approaches and modalities. I specialize in working with children and families in child welfare. I enjoy working with young children and teens as these are challenging developmental years, trauma and distress from systemic and familial patterns of behaviors, coupled with low parenting, coping, decision-making and problem-solving skills.

Growth is not linear and change can be difficult, especially if we are trying to do it on our own. Feeling disconnected from ourselves and others can be the first step of change to living a life that feels true to you. On the journey of self-discovery, we often need another perspective in order to change our reality; therapy can be a way to get there. Therapy is a tool that can be used to help you find your most authentic self and live life unapologetically. In finding what works for you we will develop new skills that will contribute to your ideal life. I would be happy to assist you in creating a life that is authentic to you.

We all experience struggles from time to time that may leave us feeling overwhelmed, or numb and disconnected. Whether you are recovering from trauma, experiencing relationship difficulties, seeking insight, or needing a safe space to work through difficult emotions- therapy can help you forge a new way forward while collaborating with a caring clinician. Although starting therapy can feel a bit scary, it is a worthy process.

Do you feel unlovable? Have you been told that you aren't good enough? Do you maybe say these things to yourself? Is it difficult to connect or feel safe during intimacy with partners or in general? You are not alone. Many people that have lived through childhood/relational trauma find it difficult to feel comfortable in their bodies, express themselves authentically, and engage comfortably in relationships. How you feel right now is not how you have to feel for the rest of your life.

Focus: college students and professionals struggling with depression, anxiety, and/or relationship issues. I'm trained in evidence-based therapies, such as Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, which concludes that through mindful meditation, we can defuse ourselves from our thoughts and emotions, allowing us to commit to value-congruent actions in a way that brings us life purpose. I am also passionate about working with couples, helping them navigate through their struggles at any point in their relationship or deal with sensitive issues. Lastly, I'm a sex-positive Sex Therapist who welcomes individuals to explore their sexual issues in a safe and non-judgmental setting.

I believe in a strength based approach which means every client has a natural strength that can be used to improve upon any situation. My goal is to help clients identify and utilize the skills they already possess. Therapy approaches I often use to achieve this goal are EMDR, CBT, motivational interviewing, etc. I enjoy working with clients who are seeking to process through trauma. We have all experienced it at least once in our lives, and I love working with clients seeking to process and overcome these experiences. I practice a judgement free environment and enjoy learning as much from my clients as they learn from me.

Reaching out and asking for help can be one of the most challenging aspects of starting the therapy process. If you have made it this far, you are ready to start. The majority of the clients I work with are aware of the issues they would like to focus on for treatment. With that, my approach tends to be both relational in style and goal oriented in terms of treatment planning and working towards the best way to assist you in your personal growth and success.

Our thoughts, emotions, and sensations aren't just experienced in our minds; they are experienced in our bodies. When we become disconnected from our emotions and sensations due to things like stress, trauma, or shame, it can leave us feeling "stuck" and unable to truly thrive. The weight of our past experiences can make it difficult to move forward in life. I help clients strengthen their mind-body connection and tap into their own inner knowing to facilitate meaningful change and healing.

At times we all face things that can feel challenging, insurmountable, or overwhelming. I view therapy as a space where my clients can share their experiences and explore patterns where they may be feeling stuck. I am passionate about helping clients work through this stuckness and detangle obstacles that may be standing in the way of the goals you desire to achieve. I recognize that taking the step to seek therapy can feel vulnerable and I am intentional about providing a nonjudgmental space as we work together in addressing the challenges that bring you in.

Open Relationships Non-Monogamy Therapists

Why might an individual want to see a therapist specializing in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

A client seeking help with an open or consensually non-monogamous relationship will prefer to talk with a professional whom they can count on to be nonjudgmental. Talking with a supportive therapist may on its own help relieve some of the stigma and challenges partners face. That said, the most important factor in the success of any type of therapy is the ability of the client and practitioner to form a strong, trusting bond. For this reason, an individual or couple could find success with a therapist who does not specialize in non-monogamous relationships but with whom they can build trust.

When should open or consensually non-monogamous partners seek counseling?

Like other couples, polyamorous partners typically seek counseling when they face relationship challenges they can’t solve themselves. In non-monogamous relationships, this could include breaches of trust, including infidelity; unclear rules or violations of boundaries; jealousy of outside partners; the stress of juggling the needs of multiple partners; or the effect of high partner turnover on children. Like those of other couples, polyamorous bonds can be threatened by increasingly frequent arguments, poor or dysfunctional communication, diminished emotional or physical intimacy, or the feeling that something is wrong, even if they don’t know what it is.

Do therapists have special training to gain expertise in open relationships and consensual non-monogamy?

No, but individuals seeking help with non-monogamous relationships would most likely consult a licensed professional with specific training in couples counseling or couples therapy. Couples counseling and couples therapy both involve teaching concrete strategies to navigate conflict in relationships. A good therapist can engage both partners as they explain these approaches but can also work with a single partner.

How long does therapy for consensually non-monogamous couples typically last?

Couples therapy for any type of couple, tends to be relatively time-limited, lasting around 12 weeks on average. A good therapist will tailor sessions to the individual partners’ emotions and sometimes their past, along with patterns found to be repeating in the relationship. In many cases, clients should expect their therapist to assign “homework” between weekly sessions.
