My practice is informed by humanistic, existential, feminist, and multicultural theory.
Reaching out and asking for help is often a brave and difficult first step. There are many reasons why people seek out therapy. I work to create a safe and supportive environment for all of my clients, so that they may begin to explore and understand themselves, their feelings, and their way of relating to others. I believe that therapy is a collaborative process and a strong therapeutic relationship enables change to happen. I tailor my approach to meet each of my client's unique needs.

My primary focus is to empower individuals on their therapeutic journeys by utilizing artistic practices and expression. Life isn’t one size fits all so it’s only fair that your therapy ought not be. My approach is integrative and includes elements of trauma and culturally informed practices, IFS, EMDR, DBT, feminist/Queer relational, psychodynamic, and client centered modalities. As a practicing interdisciplinary artist l utilize a variety of approaches to art making in my personal practice. Embodying a creative approach to healing that centers both empowerment and agency is at the center of my clinical practice.

I specialize in working with folk who are queer, neurodivergent, and/or going through major life transitions. I recognize that beginning a journey toward greater self-discovery can be daunting. To be successful in this endeavor, it is crucial to feel understood and valued along the way. To this end, I approach the therapeutic relationship in a collaborative way and provide a person-centered, feminist therapeutic relationship characterized by radical validation and unconditional positive regard, focusing on your strengths, helping you to deepen agency and self-awareness, and emphasizing compassion and empathy throughout treatment.

I’m happy you’re here! I believe that healing takes place in relationship. My therapeutic approach is reflective, humanist, and conversational. I work through Relational-Cultural, Feminist and Person-Centered theoretical frameworks. We will be working together to create a space of healing that is non-judgmental and grounded in self-directive, goal-oriented, and strengths-based work. There is not a one-size-fits-all approach to the therapeutic relationship, so our work together will be tailored to best address your needs.

Seeking therapy is often a difficult process for many individuals of diverse backgrounds due to cultural stigmas and stereotypes around mental health. Trying to then find the "right" therapist can feel impossible whether it's your first time exploring or the umpteenth attempt following another not-so-great experience. I believe a safe therapeutic relationship can create unique opportunities for minority populations who are seeking to better understand and cope with their mental health, especially when approached with multicultural and feminist perspectives that allow for a level of empathy that is often unavailable in other spaces.

My work is strongly informed by relational-cultural, feminist, narrative theories with an embodied trauma-informed approach to provide care from a harm reduction and social justice lens.
Navigating the decision to seek therapy can be daunting, at One Love Studio, you aren't alone.Healing isn't about fixing what's broken –it's about unlocking your inner healer and embracing your truth.Therapy isn't just about exploring your past or solving problems; it's about reclaiming your narrative, finding your voice, and stepping into your authenticity. Empowering you within a safe/brave environment, we connect, mirror, and encourage you to tear down your walls of self doubt with curiosity, love, and compassion. We will identify how societal systems, social norms, and trauma contribute to these beliefs of self.

*Currently accepting clients via telehealth* In a world of constant transitions, it can be challenging to feel settled with change. Therapy is an outlet to discuss, explore and change aspects of our lives that are causing distress. Therapy allows a supportive, non-judgmental space to talk through feelings and engage our strengths to cope with life's changes. I provide action-oriented, supportive, feminist, and person-centered psychotherapy. I am a bi-lingual (Spanish-speaking) and bi-cultural therapist that understands cultural influences and can express feelings and thoughts in a language that my clients feel comfortable.

My approach is eclectic; always informed by a multicultural, feminist, and strengths perspective.
Hi, I'm an IL Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor and board Certified Rehabilitation Counselor with my Master of Science in Rehabilitation Counseling from Drake University. I have 15 years experience providing therapy in inpatient, community, home, and remote settings. I have worked with clients across the lifespan; however, I've found most children are best served with play therapy, which I do not know how to provide in a remote setting. I understand the difficulties of managing work, school, and personal relationships.

I am a queer, feminist therapist.
You are here and you are ready to explore all the parts of you, perhaps more than ever, those which have been dismissed and shamed. You are ready to deepen the relationship with yourself and to feel emotions fully without guilt or shame, on your own or perhaps with your partner. You desire a space to explore the parts of you that feel unknown, “unacceptable,” "too much," or taboo. You are ready to show up and be completely you while someone holds space for you in your bravery and vulnerability. You are craving at least one space in your life where you can work toward being genuinely you. You long to be seen as who you are.

Now accepting new clients in my practice as of 12/18/23 - If you've experienced trauma that caused you to suppress, avoid, and close yourself off from the world - to deny your needs & make yourself small - I feel you. I tried coping with trauma by turning against myself, and it only increased the shame and isolation. I'm sure there's a part of you who is curious about finding another way, who realizes you are more than your struggles. Together, we can experiment with changing your relationship to your anxiety, OCD, trauma, and identity concerns, so you can reconnect with what you need to live a rich and fulfilling life.

As a Southside native, I love working with the communities that have shaped me and given me so much. I am aware of how our decisions can affect our entire family system and therefore, using a culturally sensitive approach, we will work together to find solutions and set goals based on what is important to you. I am especially passionate about helping clients build their self-esteem and challenge those negative thoughts that can make our day-to-day seem so much more difficult. I enjoy working with teens and adults of all genders, but I specialize in helping women overcome emotional, relational, and societal barriers.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
