I provide culturally-oriented therapy with feminist, interpersonal and cognitive-behavioral influences.
Feeling like an imposter, having trouble connecting with others or struggle to find balance? You are not alone. Many of my clients are navigating issues with perfectionism, relationships, career and identity development. As a woman of color, I am curious about how intersecting identities may impact your experiences. My work is focused on creating a collaborative, nonjudgmental space for honest, critical reflections on what works for you and what is no longer serving a purpose. If you are motivated to better understand yourself and make meaningful changes in your life, you will likely benefit the most from our work.

I have been trained in postmodern practices, cognitive therapy, mindfulness and feminist therapy.
I believe psychotherapy is a mutual journey between the therapist and the client. Though the waters can be rough, the adventure can be exciting and rewarding. It is an opportunity for the client to create a different way of being in the world and discover new narratives of their personal story. Whether depression, addiction, relational, or crisis, we will unpack the problem and find a solution. Specialized in trauma work with mindfulness and EMDR.

I using a feminist approach, and lgbtq affirming therapist.
Here is what I believe: Everyone needs an objective person to help support and guide them through life’s challenges, transitions and hurdles. I believe the most important aspect of therapy is a trusting, nonjudgmental, and compassionate relationship with your therapist; therapy should feel safe, and provide you relief. I enjoy working with people from different background to help them discover their true self and overcoming the obstacles that may obscure their journey to happiness and self-fulfillment. I utilize humanistic mindful approaches to support wellness. I have availability in evening for couples and individuals.

My approach is built on a foundation of feminist values.
I help driven professionals process trauma, decrease anxiety, and build better relationships. You've probably got a lot going on; your relationship is strained, demands on you at work are increasing, or the ways you used to cope don't seem to be working anymore. Whatever brings you to therapy, we can figure out a way to feel better together.

Do you feel the pressure to be perfect all the time?...with food, relationships, your job, and even your appearance? Do you look at yourself in old pictures with admiration…only to remember that even then, you weren’t able to appreciate yourself? Maybe you’re tired of stressing over every bite you take and still feeling out of control with food. At this point, maybe it’s hard to even remember a time you didn’t feel like this. But one thing is for sure: you’re ready for some relief. You’re ready to find joy in your day-to-day again. Most of all, you’re ready for a new "normal" and I can help you get there.

It is human to struggle, to feel at times we have lost our way. To feel sad, stuck, angry, or afraid. Life can be hard and achingly beautiful. It is rich with complexity and it is sacred. We all need support in navigating life’s challenges and in slowing down. To take the time to be with the tender parts of ourselves that are longing for love and care. In a culture that privileges constant doing and achievement, it can be empowering and healing to cultivate a sense of inherent worth and value. To take time to play and create and to feel into experiences of wonder and awe, to truly enjoy the pleasures of being alive.

Our practice, Cognitive Behavior Associates, is one of the largest CBT practices in Southern California. All of our clinicians are trained in and practice the most up-to-date, empirically supported treatments. Although all of our clinicians have familarity with "manualized" treatments, we treat each client individually so as to maximize the fit between client and treatment.

I believe you have the power and ability to change what you don't want; the question is, "are you willing?" your life is a result of choices and circumstances. Make a different choice, and you'll get a different result. You have the right to say "no" to what you don't want, and you have the right to say "yes" to what you do want. It's okay to tell yourself you're enough as is, it's okay to tell yourself that you are worthy of someone else's time, it's okay to tell yourself that you deserve happiness. And it's okay to be unapologetically yourself.

When something we’re currently facing or something we’ve faced in the past is unprocessed or unresolved, it can subconsciously influence all aspects of our lives. However, when we process these experiences, we understand the subconscious motivations behind our behavior and regain autonomy.

Therapy is a place for building confidence, motivation and belonging. In order to help you, we must engage the amazing complexity of you at the multiple levels of your life. No level is privileged. A person is always more than their thoughts and behaviors. A person is always more than their history. Not only do I work to “change” thoughts and behaviors, I work with the whole person-in-their-experiential-context. A good therapist doesn’t just “do therapy”. They sense and do justice to the person in their context. I am a radically different therapist with each person I see. This is because I believe that you are the expert on you.

My clients are seeking help adjusting to major life changes, looking to live with painful emotions and eventually adapting them into meaningful action - towards themselves and those they love. I largely work with women, men and teenagers who are going through divorce and family restructuring, i.e. becoming re-singled, re-partnered, or learning to accept life split between two homes. Individuals looking to redefine place and purpose in the world after change, especially unwanted, is hard work. Having a sounding board and therapeutic guide who listens, challenges and supports you is essential to reaching your goals.

Feminist Therapists

How does feminist therapy work?

Feminist therapy sessions are not only personal but often cultural or political in nature, as the approach is based on the belief that people are affected by, and often struggle with, cultural and societal norms and biases, and need to move beyond those external pressures or stressors to tap their own confidence and engage more fully in their own identity. Sessions may therefore include discussions of sexism, diversity, and gender issues and talk of steps toward greater empowerment for patients who believe they have been silenced and seek to raise their voices.

What are examples of feminist therapy techniques?

Along with traditional talk therapy and analysis, a feminist therapist may employ techniques such as role-playing and assertiveness training to help clients build their self-esteem so that they feel they can act freely, and not based on cultural expectations or gender roles dictated by others. A feminist therapist may also engage in bibliotherapy, offering suggested readings on gender identity or social power inequities as they work toward viewing mental-health concerns through a broad cultural lens before focusing on how they affect the individual. Somatic therapy techniques, with an emphasis on body awareness, self-compassion, and mindfulness practices are also often part of feminist therapist practice.

How long does feminist therapy last?

As with most forms of talk therapy, there is no set duration or end point for feminist therapy; people who believe that they are making progress typically continue until they feel they’ve addressed the issues that had been holding them back. It may take some time to become comfortable discussing personal issues, but once a client feels they can do so, they could expect therapy to last for a number of months, typically including at least 12 sessions.

Does feminist therapy work?

As a relatively recent therapeutic technique, there is not yet a body of evidence proving the efficacy of feminist therapy. However, the approach is based on proven core principles of talk therapy, with a particular emphasis on developing a therapeutic relationship based on equality and authentic connection between therapist and client and discovering and building on clients’ personal strengths to help them gain a greater sense of personal power and agency.
