I have been working in the mental health field for 16 years. People who want to focus on discovering their inner strengths and understanding how those attributes can help them overcome their current challenges will benefit greatly from my techniques. I use a strength- based team approach which simply means I see counseling as a partnership between the people I work with and myself. I believe life is a journey and together we can make the most out of yours.

For most people, it is difficult to ask for help, so great job taking that first step already! The rest gets easier. I am here to help guide you through some of life's earthquakes. Whether it is trauma, grief, life-transitions, loss, abuse, neglect or your unique situation, I am solution and future-focused so that together we can create a future better than the past. I am compassionate, determined, and here for you, whether short-term or long-term. Healing goals are personal, and together we can determine what those might look like.

At times we become trapped in repeating negative patterns, unable to achieve our goals. Life feels meaningless, lonely and cold. Clarity and direction needed for the pursuit of happiness is lost in the weight of the day blocking the energy needed for change and growth. Lost in this mindset we fill every space with condemning thoughts and fruitless behaviors. These thought patterns result in no room for healthy, life affirming emotion. Whatever we use to numb from the dark, also numbs out the light.

It takes courage to seek help. I help individuals and couples experiencing anxiety, grief, loss, alcohol/substance use, and relationship issues. There are times in life when the circumstances you're faced with can feel overwhelming. Talking it out can help you feel supported while gaining a better understanding of the steps you want to take. I help client's learn coping skills to manage their feelings of hopelessness, fear, and uncertainty. I work to empower my client's life by providing reassurance, hope, resources and options to address the reason they're in therapy. YOU are not alone. HELP is here when YOU are ready.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
