Are you tired of facing your problems alone, yet feeling unsure about discussing them with a stranger? Are you feeling trapped in your anxious and depressive thoughts, but feeling too embarrassed to talk, or express yourself in fear that you may be judged? You are not alone in this. I want to applaud your courage and bravery in taking that first step. I have helped those seeking help with a variety of issues, and work well with complex conditions. Some include depression, anxiety, borderline personality disorder, self-esteem, bullying, family conflict, defiant behaviors, anger management, and coping with stress.

I have worked in crisis intervention and assessment, family and individual work with children and adolescents, and substance abuse counseling.
Connection is why we are here. Too often we focus on what we don't have, what we don't want, and how we don't measure up. This leaves us feeling depressed, disconnected, and isolated. I want to help you ask and answer a different set of questions. What do you already have? What do you really want? What are you passionate about? How are you already good enough?

I try to offer a balance of insight and sensitivity to each client and family that I see, and get client feedback each session.
It was Irvin Yalom who said something to the effect that "psychotherapy is like a dress rehearsal for life". With this said, it is my intention to not only offer you support in therapy but to also help you generalize the skills you learn in therapy and apply them in your outside life and relationships. I specialize in anger and anxiety management for adults and adolescents. I hold an Anger Management Certification. I also enjoy working with highly intelligent adults and teens who have a difficult time adjusting and adapting socially. This includes working with individuals on the high functioning end of the Autism scale.

TBRI (Trust Based Relational Intervention), DBT (Dialect Behavior Therapy) and family systems theory to name a few.
The struggle is real but through hope, growth, faith and transformation we heal. We all have a story to tell. No persons story is any better or worse than anyone else's. I can attest to the struggle to reach out for help and the need to be vulnerable. I am someone who is there to help guide you through those tough times. The courage and strength that it takes to reach out for help is the first step and a critical component to healing. The willingness to seek help and be vulnerable is actually a sign of strength. Let me help you on that journey!

I am devoted to helping people not only address their physical and mental health, but also to identify how stigma impacts the healing process. I began in 2014, working with both adolescents experiencing Substance Use Disorder and their families. Since that time, I have developed skills working with people experiencing a wider range of challenges including: depression and other mood disorders, anxiety, and trauma. My intention in every session is to provide a safe space for people of any race, gender, sexual orientation or family structure (however that may look for you). Asking for help is hard and I can only hope to honor that.

As a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist, I am in full support of recognizing our differences and utilizing dialogue that addresses their impact in our stories.
The therapeutic environment offers a unique opportunity to share, confront, and enhance parts of ourselves while exploring and discovering deeper traits and skills that we may possess. As a therapist, I believe in empowering the individual through therapeutic experiences that foster a lasting change outside of the therapy setting. I cherish the opportunity to engage in this relationship and commit myself to doing the work with you and supporting your exploration. I value modeling transparency, care, boundaries, and healthy support systems. I believe that challenging dialogue in a safe environment leads to internal growth.

Perhaps you are hitting a wall with your job or life, or perhaps a family member is struggling and you are looking for help.
I work well with clients from all walks of life who have identified that something is not working for them and they would like to enhance their "tool set." While I am able to work with a wide range of issues, the most common that tend to present themselves are related to changes in life, anxiety, or depression. I believe that each person tries to do the best they can with what they have. Sometimes what we have is not quite enough for a problem and we need to learn a more effective way of dealing with issues. It is not in my ability to change a person, I only help them change themselves to the degree they are willing.

I have worked with people, in individual and group counseling settings, who experience depression, anxiety, gender dysphoria, self-harming, suicidal ideation, family conflict, relationship issues, life transitions, and self-esteem issues.
"No one is you, and that is your superpower." Reaching out for help can be challenging, but I am here to help you travel on your journey. I am willing, and will hopefully be lucky enough, to offer the support you may not have received. I listen, I observe, and I remain non-judgmental and accepting. Also, while I recognize and understand that everyone's experience are different, I am able to empathize, as I too belong to the LGBT+ community.

Anger, anxiety, depression, and relationship problems can be very challenging. When we blow-up, it’s usually on the people we care the most about. When our relationships aren’t good, it can impact nearly everything we do. When anxiety or depression becomes too much, you can feel as though you are lost or constantly overwhelmed. I specialize in helping people who are overcome by anger, struggling with their relationships, drowning in depression, and/or frozen by anxiety. People who reach out to me for support realize they're not living the life they want. They know they’re capable of more and want to fix their situation.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
