Life can sometimes be really hard. Sometimes by our own doing, sometimes because of someone else, and sometimes you just don't feel 'right'. These bumps (or mountains sometimes!) can be tough to get through. Whether it is you, your marriage or relationship, or your family that is struggling, I want to work together with you to get you back to where you need to be. I value authenticity and desire to be 'real' with my clients.

I went to school as a family nurse practitioner and learned to treat the physical body.
My goal as a functional NP is to get to the root of the problem. There are countless physical health conditions that impact our overall mental health. Many people are treated for symptoms, but the cause is frequently overlooked. At Syringa, we will assess things like thyroid dysfunction, hormonal imbalances in women, low testosterone in men, and many other common causes of mental health symptoms. Our goal is to treat the underlying problem and not focus on symptom resolution. When the body is healed, the symptoms will resolve.

I will consult with family Doctor so they can better prescribe medication that fits the needs of individuals.
I like clients that are unique, meaning I enjoy people's differences. I tend to create the treatment plan around the client and their needs rather than a cookie cutter type of treatment plan. I work with a wide range of clients from children and adolescents to couples therapy.

I enjoy working with individuals (adolescents, adults) couples, and families, helping people resolve their issues by providing strategies/resources to deal with issues such as anxiety, depression, grief/loss, and marital/family conflict.
"What do you first do when you learn to swim? You make mistakes, do you not? And what happens? You make other mistakes, and when you have made all the mistakes you possibly can without drowning - and some of them many times over - what do you find? That you can swim. Well - life is just the same as learning to swim! Do not be afraid of making mistakes, for there is no other way of learning how to live!" (Alfred Adler) THERAPY to me is Thoughtful, Hopeful, Empathetic, Restoring, Affirming, Powerful, and something You CAN do!

I am a Senior Mediator of Academy of Family Mediators, an Active member of Idaho Mediators Assn, an Active member of Idaho Mental Health Counselors Assn.
My philosophy is rooted in 3 pillars of commitment: first is truth, I seek to be a kind and insightful counselor. as such my interactions with clients are candid and honest, it is a core belief that we all need to hear the truth about our actions, our feelings and what we need to do to overcome the issues facing the client. This is reinforced through an experiential element in which the client is given exercises and homework assignments. The second, compassion. The third pillar is taken from the Greek philosophy of a "healthy mind and a healthy body" approach to mental wellness.

Through both a directive and nondirective therapeutic approach, I can help you realize how to identify generational trauma, current trauma, lack of connections, and maladaptive family systems, that so often lead to turning to substances or behaviors to aid in the alleviation of the symptoms of those traumas and attachment injuries. Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
