I’ve helped others succeed in their marriages and goals, with varying addictions, PTSD, Anxiety, Men's Issues, the rebuilding of lives after difficult times & the pressures that today's First Responders, Caregivers, Healthcare Clinicians, Veterans, Business Leaders & Educators felt and will face in pre & post-pandemic America. I will confidentially support you, your partner, or your family in reaching your goals. Some desire to process events in their life, some prefer tangible real-world solutions right now, and some want both. Even as you help others, I am here to help.

Are you struggling in your relationships with family, partners, and friends? Have a difficult time managing work stress, more so than normal? Are you trying to avoid burnout? Does anxiety show up more often and make you feel overwhelmed? Are you too depressed to enjoy the things you used to enjoy?.
With a burning passion for mental well-being, I'm here to guide you toward a life filled with strength and fulfillment. I believe that life can be incredibly difficult to navigate, and sometimes we struggle to figure out what direction to build towards. Even more so, sometimes the lessons we learned in our past do not apply to the lifestyle that we are living today. This makes it difficult to succeed in all areas of life and to feel secure in ourselves. I hope that through therapy, personal effort, and hard work we can create a life that we feel proud of.

My approach combines various techniques that draw upon internal family system (IFS), Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), polyvagal therapy, attachment-based, and mindfulness.
I believe one of the bravest things you can do is to begin to understand your own story. Reaching out for support is often the hardest step and I commend you for being here. Together, we will explore the layers of your life that have caused burden, stress, or sadness and work together to release you from their hold. I provide a virtual space of safety, connection, open expression, autonomy, authenticity, and collaboration. With compassion and understanding, I work with each person to help them build on their strengths and attain the personal growth they are committed to accomplishing.

As a marriage and family therapist, I also enjoy teaching loved ones how to support each other in order to improve the quality of relationships.
I am the owner and therapist behind Next Steps Counseling and Consulting, PLLC. With a focus on anxiety, life transitions, and relationships, I specialize in disordered eating, body image, and helping families support each other. For 15 years, I have provided therapy in multiple settings, including outpatient, PHP/IOP, community mental health, and private practice. I spent ten years of my career in clinical and administrative leadership but felt a calling to return to direct service in response to the current mental health crisis. I opened a virtual private practice and have loved being able to return to therapy and direct care.

I have a cognitive behavioral approach to emphasize the power of our thoughts, feelings, and actions while utilizing methods from the Gottman Institute, Emotionally Focused Couple’s Therapy, and Family Systems Theory.
Over the last 5 years, I have experience working with individuals, couples and families struggling with relationships, parenting, and life transitions. I understand the importance of relationships throughout life and utilize my skills to assist parents, couples, and families in building healthy, long-lasting relationships. It is a natural occurrence in all relationships to have periods of highs and lows. Oftentimes the stressors of life make it difficult to heal from the lows and transform your marriage with life’s changing stages.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
