My goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges in your life. Together we will unearth behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life. If you're looking for extra support and guidance through a challenging situation or you're just ready to move in a new direction, I look forward to working with you to achieve your goals.

Life is a journey that can often become difficult to maneuver. However, facing life's struggles can empower us to be the people we are intended to be. This process is often mentally and physically exhausting. I would be honored to walk alongside you, your child, and/or your
family
on your personal journey of self-discovery. I love children and specialize in non-directive play therapy with children 3-7 years of age. Additionally, I work with adolescents and teens navigating the often difficult times of transition through middle/high school. Finally, I have a heart to work with women in life transitions.

I graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and later received a Masters in Counseling from UNC-Charlotte. I have experience in a variety of counseling settings including the hospital, school, and private practice. My goal as a clinician is to help adolescents, teens, young adults, and adults build upon their own personal strengths in order to cope with transitions, anxiety, depression, adjustment issues, grief/loss,
family
issues, and self esteem. Therapy is a unique process in which clients gain greater insight about themselves, their relationships, and others. Creating a safe and supportive environment is essential to my therapy practice.

After fifty two years in ministry and twenty years in the Army Chaplaincy, I began my training in Marriage and
Family
Counseling and Psychoanalysis at Blanton-Peale Institute in New York City.
I work with individuals and couples whose lives have been interrupted by depression, anxiety, and trauma. Psychotherapy, like pastoral care and psychoanlysis, is "soul work" - self expression in the presence of a trusted friend and guide. In this safe space of the therapeutic relationship, thoughts and feelings, dreams and fantasies, desires and fears are given voice -- loud and clear, and without judgment. Authentic verbal and emotional expression is transformative. As dysfunctional patterns of thought and behavior become clear, as shattered parts of the self are recognized and linked, a new wholeness is achieved which offers the courage to change and the joy of freedom.

Trained in
family
systems, I help uncover relational patterns that block paths to robust communication, deep connections, and richer relationships.
Places you come to, places you leave behind, and places you dream of reaching. You have come to one of life’s tough places and found confusion, conflict, and complications. Instead of enjoying life, you are spending much of it on anxiety, disappointment, shame, loneliness, pain, and stress. There are places of greater ease, simplicity, and well-being, where relationships are caring, connections are real, and easefulness is daily. You do have strength to make inroads towards new places and wisdom to find greater calm, acceptance, and enjoyment of your life journey. Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
