I have evening and after school appointments to accommodate your
family
, so you don’t have to miss work or school.
Parenting adolescents is challenging. As your teen gets older, they may show signs of struggling in some or many areas of their lives. You may notice personality changes, or they no longer have the same interests or no longer seem motivated. You’ve read books, tried different strategies and tried to communicate with your teen, but there has not been sustained change. You know that your teen has potential, but how do you help them find it? Looking for outside help, can be a scary step, with many questions. Will someone be able to connect with my teen, am I able to trust that person/will my teen be able to?

I received my Masters degree in counseling from The University of South Florida and a post Masters degree (EdS) in Marriage and
Family
from The College of New Jersey.
If you're searching for a therapist you know there has to be a good fit between the two of you in order for that partnership to be successful. I don't believe there is a one size fits all when it comes to life's challenges and no one size fits all when I work with clients. Life has a habit of throwing us a curve ball on occasion and it's nice to work through that with someone who isn't in the middle of your life. Reach out and let's talk. I take a strength-based approach and use various modalities to facilitate insight, reach personal goals, and work through issues.

Within my practice as a therapist I use a person centered and strengths based approach to meet clients where they are. In my experiences with youth and adults, I have learned that everyone desires to feel heard and seen, and often when those needs aren’t met, they may lead to unhealthy habits or a lack of healthy coping skills. Primarily I work within
family
systems, couples, and individuals throughout transitions or during pregnancy and postpartum periods. During therapy I assist clients in developing healthy coping skills, reframe negative thoughts, and create attainable goals.

I am a strong believer in healthy relationships. When our relationships shift towards dysfunctional, they can become more stressful than comforting. I work with adults in individual, couple, and
family therapy
to create more balanced relationships, with themselves and others. Together we explore issues related to intergenerational trauma, dysfunctional relationship patterns, and
family
issues. These issues often look like disconnection, unresolvable issues, uneven work-life balance, and people pleasing. My clients often identify has Highly Sensitive People (HSP) or as therapists and healers. If this sounds like you, let's chat!

"...healing means, first of all, the creation of an empty but friendly space where those who suffer can tell their story to someone who can listen with real attention..." (Henri Nouwen). My desire in counseling is to provide a safe, non-judgmental space for one to tell their story, to go deeper and discover the their own personal way of being human and the way they want to go. As Henri Nouwen says, "Quite often it is our fear for the hidden moments in our own history that keeps us paralyzed."

Family Therapy
What do family therapists do?
A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.
How long does therapy for families take to work?
Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.
How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?
You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.
Is therapy for families effective?
Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
