Please call/email for individual, couples or family therapy.
As a dual diagnosis/co-occurring psychotherapist, (licensed mental health counselor and licensed substance use disorder professional) my goal is to help you uncover your true potential and lead a life that is worth celebrating. While we can't change difficult situations of the past, we can work together to better understand and resolve challenges. By applying specific therapeutic approaches and techniques, we will unearth long-standing behavior patterns or negative perceptions that may be holding you back from experiencing a more fulfilling and meaningful life and incorporate healthy coping skills.

I’ll seek for us both to understand you in the many contexts of your life: family, culture, work, and important relationships.
Is there a story you’re carrying about yourself, a situation, or relationship that’s causing heartbreak, pain, or frustration? Is it something you just can’t shake or feel stuck carrying? Stories hold power, whether they’re told to us, learned consciously, buried deep, or what we tell ourselves. They can be instructional, revealing, occasionally harmful, but filled with endless possibilities. When we are aware of our stories, we get to determine the next chapter. I want to hear your story.

My passion lies in working with both youth and adults alike and believe that counseling offers an opportunity to reflect on the current challenges that you may be experiencing in life, and working together with you on moving forward. In particular I have a heart and passion for working with youth and young adults of color. I believe that racial identity is linked to every aspect of daily lives for people of color and often leads to ongoing symptoms of stress and anxiety. I love working with individuals of all races and ethnicities, including folks who identify as children of immigrants.

As a National Certified Counselor, I will explore your concerns and assist you in uncovering deeper issues that might be hindering or influencing your relationships and your worldview. Given the unique challenges that each person encounters, which demand subtle and distinct methods of intervention, I trained in both contemporary research-based therapies, as well as traditional techniques (Psychodynamics), so I can offer a variety of tools. “Forces beyond your control can take away everything you possess except one thing, your freedom to choose how you will respond to the situation.” -- Dr. Viktor Frankl (founder of Logotherapy).

When life starts to feel overwhelming, fatiguing, and chaotic, reaching out for help can be especially difficult. Then as the challenges and issues of life become impossible, we start to lose hope. The truth is, we all have the ability to live a more abundant life, no matter how difficult our circumstances may be. Things like addictions, trauma, anxiety, depression, and difficult relationships can all be barriers to abundance. While these barriers may seem overwhelming, they don’t have to define you or prevent you from healing, growth, and a life that is full. When you can’t get past these barriers on our own, it’s okay to get help.

I offer skillful therapy with warmth, gentleness, humor, and an interactive, down to earth style. My therapeutic approach blends more traditional psychodynamic work with body-oriented psychotherapy, mindfulness practices, and the development of a safe and supportive therapeutic relationship. I work with adolescent and adult individuals, couples, and groups. This work is about igniting what works, what is strong and beautiful in us, as much as it is about resolving old hurt and compassionately holding the difficulties of life. Therapy can facilitate powerful shifts creating greater room for happiness, authenticity and a deeper sense of purpose and meaning.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
