Founder of TriHealing Counseling Group. Like many "first-generationers", I experienced struggles with cultural and generational differences, the over-critical parent(s), the "never good enough" mentality, and a sense of emotional distance within myself and at times, within my relationship with my family. Through my own journey, I learned to challenge cultural norms, embracing my biculturalism and making decisions on how I wanted to experience the world as an independent Vietnamese-American woman. I often travel between San Jose and Chicago so I provide a hybrid of in-person and virtual therapy sessions.

I am proud to be part of a multi-cultural family! I strive to provide a safe healing space where you can process difficulties, express vulnerabilities, explore negative patterns, improve your communication skills, and enrich your relationships.
Accepting NEW clients! I am deeply motivated to contribute to the underrepresented number of male therapists available to support men and men of color. As an Associated Clinical Social Worker with 15 years of community-based experience, I have dedicated myself to working with at-risk children/teens and system-impacted families in underserved communities. I firmly believe that with the right attitude, willingness, and a seed of faith, we can effectively navigate our trials. My approach to therapy is deeply personalized and rooted in integrity and human connection.

Welcome! I'm Kelly, a certified professional life coach with a gentle, strengths-based approach. I help women and members of the LGBTQIA+ community break cycles of dysfunction and self-sacrifice to finally claim the lives they need. My coaching philosophy is grounded in psychodynamic theory and incorporates concepts borrowed from Internal Family Systems, Co-Active Coaching, and somatic work. While the work we do together is not psychotherapy (my role is not to diagnose or treat mental illness), the pace and rhythm of my coaching sessions are very similar to what you would experience in a therapist’s office.

I especially enjoy working with people who are struggling to figure out WHY they do the things they do! Whether it's at work, with your family members, or while sitting in traffic alone with your thoughts, if you're constantly asking yourself, "Why did I say that?" or "What was I thinking?" then, I got you.
My approach to counseling is grounded in creating a safe and welcoming environment where clients feel comfortable expressing themselves authentically. With a passion for incorporating humor and warmth into my sessions, I aim to not only facilitate growth and healing but also to foster genuine connections with those I work with. My hope is that you look forward to our sessions each week and leave with a renewed sense of optimism about your ability to tackle your biggest challenges.

Harmony. When you think of harmony, one might picture different things coming together that work so well simultaneously and you feel a sense of peace. When things aren’t working well together, there is a clash or dissonance, causing more stress and more problems. I came across a video on Instagram from Nedra Glover Tawwab (nedratawwab) where she talked about the difference between balance and harmony. You see, my ultimate goal in life was to achieve balance when in fact what I was envisioning was harmony. “Harmony is getting things to flow in your life in a cohesive way. Balance is getting everything to be equal."

If you’re feeling depleted, stuck, or unfulfilled, you are not alone. With the demands of showing up as a parent, significant other, friend, and employee, there’s no wonder the challenge it is to show up for yourself. Additionally, I believe that every person possesses the inner wisdom for healing and the power to reclaim agency over their experience. My role as a therapist is to provide an accepting space for this self-discovery, and to support you in learning the tools to cope with life on life’s terms.

I use an integrative approach that is based on the individual needs of the people in front of me and begins with compassion and empathy. I believe forming a strong therapeutic relationship is key for therapy to be successful. Rooted in person-centered therapy, I use empathy, respect, humor, and curiosity to guide treatment. From there, I weave various evidenced based practices together like Solution-Focused, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment therapy, attachment theory and mindfulness strategies to challenge, empower, build insight and guide you to healthier ways of managing life.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
