I use Emotionally-Focused Therapy ( EFT) to help couples and individuals overcome negative interactional cycles.
I created Lioncrest Counseling to help others with finding their way to a healthy and balanced life. I enjoy working with individuals, adolescents, couples and families using Dialectical-Behavioral Therapy(DBT), Emotionally Focused Therapy ( EFT), Solution Focused Therapy (SFT), experiential, strengths-based and positive psychotherapy. I help clients with depression, anxiety, addiction, attachment issues, trauma, mood disregulation, grief and loss, and oppositional defiance. I am passionate about identifying needs and have a creative hands-on approach– using music, art and acting to help people work through their feeling and issues.

Hi! I know it can be hard to found the right therapist; and applaud you for searching for a good fit for you. I am trained in trauma, CBT, mood disorders, EFT, substance use treatment and EMDR. I love to use my sense of humor, to help build rapport and relationships quickly. I am dedicated, resilient and can pivot when needed. I believe we all have a story from our personal experience, and we all store that differently in our body and mind and experience it in a variety of ways. I believe that exploring and understanding the way we experience life events are important.

My clinical focus is relationship counseling with 80% to 90% of my caseload devoted to working with couples. I use my own model based on my training with John Gottman and Harvel Hendrix that focuses somewhat on insight, but mostly on behavioral change and communication. I team with the couple to find solutions that work for them and increase the satisfaction that they both experience in the relationship. I also work with individuals on relationship issues.

Life is complicated. Unhelpful thoughts and experiences from the past making things more difficult than they need to be. I help people process those experiences, sort out their values and priorities, build their capacity to be compassionate with themselves, create healthy boundaries for improved relationships, and learn how to regulate their emotions. Anxiety, perfectionism, and procrastination can have less influence on your life. If you are struggling with mood issues, anxiety, life transitions, or interpersonal relationships, I would like to talk about how we could work together.

My work with clients begins at the heart using a strength-based, person-centered approach. Navigating life's uncertainties and learning how to grow through difficult times can be challenging. Past events in our lives are part of our story, but they are not the entire story and they do not define our whole life. I embrace people and their stories with an open heart and innate sensitivity. Creating a safe and nonjudgmental environment to explore relationship and life patterns that are no longer serving you is of utmost importance to me. Therapy is a journey that we can take together, navigating the challenges in a collaborative way.

Facing challenges like depression, anxiety, and trauma can hinder our ability to authentically and fully engage with life. As a psychotherapist, my practice is grounded in trauma-informed care. I specialize in EMDR, mindfulness-based, and psychodynamic therapy. I understand that spirituality plays an important part in many people's healing; and I incorporate a holistic approach that recognizes the interconnectedness of biological, mental, and emotional well-being.

Emotionally Focused Therapists

Who is emotionally focused therapy for?

Emotionally focused therapy (EFT) is for couples who are emotionally distressed, stuck in an unsatisfying relationship pattern or feeling deeply alienated. They may even believe the relationship is beyond repair. Very often, the partners display intense anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal in the relationship. In addition, EFT is helpful to couples and individuals who have difficulty expressing emotions and those who have trouble regulating emotions.

Why do people need emotionally focused therapy?

People need emotionally focused therapy because the need for others is built into the brain, but the pressures of daily life can erode feelings of love, and couples often do not have the skills to find their way back to the comfort of each other. Instead, they may be stuck in repetitive patterns of anger, fear, grief, loss of trust, or a sense of betrayal. Emotionally focused therapy regards such strong negative feelings as expressions of protest over the loss of connection and turns them into pathways of reconnection.

What happens in emotionally focused therapy?

Over the course of eight to 20 weekly sessions, couples de-escalate their negative emotional reactivity to one another so that they can listen to each other and be responsive to each other’s needs. Then the deep emotional and physical bond is restored, giving partners a sense of comfort and security, which they can use to solve whatever problems come their way. The therapist plays an active role, helping partners understand how anger and withdrawal are actually misguided cries for connection.

What problems does emotionally focused therapy treat?

EFT is designed to help couples stuck in dysfunctional relationship patterns regain closeness and rebuild their relationship. Typically, such couples experience considerable distress, with partners feeling alienated and distrustful of one another, not certain their relationship can survive. EFT is also helpful to individuals experiencing attachment-related fears of loss; it helps them learn to use their fears as a way of eliciting the closeness they desire.
