Maybe your teen or partner is depressed? Stuck on Internet Porn? Maybe you have somehow been victimized? Feel anxious, or alone? Loss of loved ones? I offer a relationship based, non-judgmental approach informed by tested, evidence-based practices, including CBT and EMDR therapies - neither of which demand medication. EMDR directly targets traumatic or hurtful memories and helps put them "in the past." This has been shown to help with anxiety/fear, panic attacks, nightmares, self-esteem issues and various other symptoms associated with post traumatic stress. CBT further offers you the chance to not be overwhelmed by your experience.

I use EMDR, DBT, mindfulness, attachment, IFS, and somatic interventions.
Hi! My name is Amber and I am an LCSW in Oregon and Washington. I have much experience working with teens, families, and adults particularly around trauma and more severe symptoms of anxiety and depression. My experience has also brought me to working with those with chronic pain, comorbid disorders, body image issues, gender questions, neurodivergence, and self-harm. I have a particular affinity for people who have endured trauma and who feel like they are outsiders. I pride myself in being culturally sensitive and welcoming to all, and someone who works as part of the LGBTQIA+ community.

I use EMDR to treat trauma and EFT to guide my work with couples.
Currently accepting new clients. We all can get stuck. Trauma, life stressors, uncomfortable emotions, and relationship concerns can throw us off balance. Do you feel constantly stressed, disconnected from your partner, or the impacts of trauma? The weight of these challenges can take a toll on your daily life and overall wellness. You may feel ready to process your trauma and find healing. Or maybe, you yearn for a closer connection and effective communication in your relationship. You may also desire the capacity to cope with stressors and find fulfillment in life. This is where counseling can offer support and relief.

I utilize an integrative approach including Psychodynamic, CBT, DBT, Jungian Psychology, and EMDR to empower individuals and find coping strategies that make sense.
I am a licensed Marriage and Family Therapist dedicated to providing compassionate and supportive counseling/psychotherapy. I work with individuals both long and short term. Wanting to understand why adverse or difficult things happen to us is natural. When one can contribute a sense of meaning to a difficult situation the power of the problem is often integrated and diminishes. Therapy is a process that can help an individual find the transformational quality in their adverse experiences and become empowered by them, instead of overwhelmed by them.

I draw from EMDR, attachment, and psychodynamic therapy, while also utilizing other tools tailored to each individual I work with.
I see individuals who are experiencing feelings of depression, anxiety, body image issues, relational distress, spiritual issues, grief/loss, and eating disorders. Many of my clients are trying to cope with the effects of trauma in their life in addition to feelings of insecurity, perfectionism, self-hatred or shame. If any of this sounds like you, I want you to know that you are not alone and counseling can help. It takes great courage to seek counseling, and I can help you develop insight into yourself, learn new tools for coping, find your voice, and seek healing from your past.

Sometimes this takes a few tries to find the modality that best suits your needs, I have received significant training in EMDR, DBT, and Expressive Arts Therapy.
Clients typically work with me on life transitions and/or trauma healing. Life transitions (for example: graduation, divorce, moving, coming out, or social and/or medical gender transition) can be destabilizing but also an opportunity to explore our patterns, values, and goals. Trauma healing can be an intimidating process. Many of the people I work with have tried many things to help shift their patterns, change their narratives about themselves and the world, feel safer, and develop a sense of belonging in this world.

I work with clients to offer serious relief from the effects of trauma, depression and anxiety on their lives. Finding relief can feel like taking a first deep breath after being underwater for a long time, and that's an outcome worth fighting together for. Please email to learn more and find our if we make a good therapy team.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
