My training and approach are rooted in psychodynamic theory, EMDR, and the latest understanding of trauma.
Our pain is often the beginning of our greatest awakenings. If you are struggling with low self-esteem, anxiety, stagnancy, or general unhappiness in your life and work, chances are, your symptoms have an important message to deliver. Perhaps your discomfort has shown up to point you toward unresolved grief or trauma. It may also be a sign that old ways of being are no longer working. In adulthood, and particularly in mid-life, the strategies we adopted as children to get love and protect ourselves can act like roadblocks to the deep connection we crave with ourselves and others.

My style integrates mindfulness, EMDR, and somatic techniques.
Are you struggling with anxiety, self-criticism, and doubt? Traumas often leave us feeling like there is something wrong with us when there is not. Therapy can help address these difficult thoughts and feelings of shame in a supportive environment. In therapy, we can even learn to befriend ourselves. As a LMFT, I have experience supporting clients through issues related to trauma, PTSD, anxiety, depression, and grief. I am passionate about the exploration of sex, sexuality and identity. I also specialize in working with individuals navigating illness including chronic pain, medical trauma, grief, and meaning making.

Men deserve specialized mental health support to address our unique challenges. I've built my clinical expertise in three broad areas: 1.) assisting clients work through unresolved trauma or unmet needs from early life, often with the use of EMDR; 2.) helping men recover from compulsive sex or porn use and other sexual problems; and 3.) assisting couples navigate through infidelity, mismatched desire, and other matters related to sex and intimacy. As a former creative professional in a high-stakes industry, I am uniquely familiar with the mental health challenges faced by artists and creators.

I use a combination of talk therapy, EMDR, mindful self-compassion, and tapping (EFT), depending on my client's individual needs.
You might be going through a difficult life transition, experiencing relationship problems, or feeling overwhelmed and unable manage your stress. Therapy is a wonderful opportunity to work with someone who will provide you with the support and tools you need to create change, feeling more insightful, aware, and grounded. I have extensive experience helping individuals and couples work on finding/maintaining healthy, satisfying relationships. I aid my clients in recognizing the way their past experiences, neurotypes, and relationships shape the way they see themselves, affect their emotional well-being, and how they relate to others.

I'm EMDR trained which I use to address trauma.
I am not a typical therapist. I see myself as a co-author, witness, helpful ally, teammate, collaborator and useful resource. Rather than taking a role as an “expert” by making assumptions or interpretations about your life, I love to use skillful conversation and artful question-asking to help you get past obstacles and problems. You are here on this page because you have strength in you, you have desire in you and you have healing in you. You are the main character in your own life. Therapy can either help or hinder the development of this character as someone powerful, capable and whole.

Also, I'm trained in Attachment Focused EMDR (EMDRIA Certified) and Trauma Resiliency Model which focuses on PTSD, long-term exposure to neglect, physical, and sexual abuse, and drug and alcohol dependency.
Most of us come into therapy seeking change. Maybe we hurt too much, feel lonely, depressed, anxious, or hate our job. Our relationship might be faltering or we're feeling overwhelmed by the family. What I've learned is that we come into therapy thinking that we have one story, or narrative, and that narrative is set and fixed. I believe we've forgotten that we have a multitude of stories, or alternative narratives. Those alternative narratives can be discovered and shed light on new options and possibilities, while expanding our understanding of what we once believed was unalterable.

EMDR Therapists

Who is EMDR for?

EMDR was initially developed as a treatment for individuals with Post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD), for whom memories of a deeply distressing experience can be inadvertently triggered by random everyday events. The procedure has since been applied in the treatment of many other conditions. For example, it is used by some therapists to treat anxiety disorders including panic and phobias, depression, dissociative disorders, eating disorders, obsessive-compulsive disorders, and some personality disorders. It is suitable for adolescents and adults.

Why do people need EMDR?

People need EMDR as a way to manage distressing memories that in some way hamper the ability to function in the present. The procedure is believed to target the way memories are stored in the brain. Evidence indicates that past disturbing experiences cause ongoing distress because they were not adequately processed, and when such memories are triggered in the present, they are accompanied by all the emotions, thoughts, and physical sensations as the initial experience.

What problems does EMDR treat?

First and foremost, EMDR is intended as a treatment for PTSD, to defuse distressing memories that intrude on and impair everyday functioning. It is also often used to help those who are subject to panic attacks, phobias, and other forms of anxiety. In addition, EMDR has been used to treat individuals with depression, eating disorders, and personality disorders.

What happens in EMDR therapy?

First the therapist takes an individual’s history, and then the therapist and client decide which distressing experience(s) will be the target(s) of the exercise, delivered via a side-to-side visual stimulus requiring lateral eye movements. The client will be asked to activate thoughts, feelings, and any body sensations related to the troubling experience. The eye movements are said to reduce the emotional charge of the memory, so that the experience can then be safely discussed with the therapist and digested, minimizing its ability to trigger anxiety.
