I am experienced in many therapeutic modalities, including EMDR, DBT, ACT, and Mindfulness-based Cognitive Therapy.
CURRENTLY FULL, maintaining a waitlist. You feel shut down, trapped by negative feelings and memories. Unhappiness and worry are familiar companions. Negative emotions and thoughts interrupt the ability to be your full self. Unsatisfying relationships with friends and family sap your energy. You’d like to change the patterns in your life that don't seem to be working, but can’t find a way to do so. You want a therapist who accepts, understands and validates you, while offering real skills and strategies for dealing with your distress.

I know choosing a therapist can be difficult. I like to provide an atmosphere that is nurturing and focused on helping you achieve your goals. I do this using easily understood techniques that have been consistently shown effective through research. We'll work together to understand the complexities of your problems followed by implementation of practical solutions and skills, all couched in collaboration and empathy. I'll work hard to help you and I welcome the opportunity to do so. Ultimately, I hope to help you feel empowered enough such that you no longer need me.

Therapy can be uncomfortable and awkward and strange. Getting to know someone new is scary, and it can feel like there’s so much pressure. My goal as a therapist is to help you feel as safe as possible while you discover the strength and skill you already have to heal, thrive, and reach your goals.

I seek to help people make sense of their experiences by listening, finding patterns, and connecting dots. The issues that bring us to therapy can often be connected to previous events or long-standing themes, and my job as a therapist is to help people understand themselves in the context of their environment, relationships, and experiences. With this insight, we are then able to create meaningful change in our lives. My approach is warm, authentic, and rooted in the belief that each one of us deserves to tell our own story.

When it comes to therapy, I know it takes a lot of courage and vulnerability to find the "right" therapist. It is an investment in time, energy and resources, so making it worthwhile is important. My approach is validating as well as direct. My clients have said that I get to the root of their situations quickly and provide clear ideas of how to cope differently. I am a skills-oriented therapist who has many ideas and strategies for working toward your goals.

I believe making active focused choices about how to cope with problems and reach your goals pays dividends. Some clients come to therapy to better make peace with their past so as not to continue old patterns. Others are seeking relief from stress and anxiety that the modern world seems to breed. Yet others are working on improving important relationships. Many clients are looking for answers to meaning and purpose that they have not yet resolved in their day-to-day life. What is it that you most want to work on?

Whether this is the first time you're embarking on your therapy journey, or you're revisiting the search for a therapist who truly sees and understands you, this process can be so overwhelming. But you're taking this leap into therapy for a reason. Maybe you're feeling disconnected with yourself or those around you and you're ready to reimagine what your life could look like. Maybe you're ready to take the courageous step to begin healing from past emotional wounds that have been keeping you from living in the present. Maybe the weight of the world and its systemic injustices feels inescapable.

Dialectical Behavior (DBT) Therapists

Who is DBT for?

Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) is designed for people who experience extreme emotional suffering because they lack the skills of emotion regulation and distress tolerance. The basic affliction can underlie a wide range of conditions, from borderline and other personality disorders to PTSD and treatment-resistant anxiety and depression. The therapy is helpful to those whose emotional reactivity is so intense it is disruptive to everyday functioning and leads to frequent crises.

Why do people need DBT?

The ability to regulate emotions is a core psychological skill that enables people to function in life and pay attention to the world outside themselves; it is consistently associated with well-being. DBT is designed to help people learn how to manage and regulate their emotions. Originally developed to treat people with borderline personality disorder whose extreme emotional suffering led to self-harming behavior and suicide attempts, the therapy is now applied to other conditions involving emotion dysregulation, particularly when other treatments have failed.

What happens in DBT?

Individuals meet weekly with their therapist to discuss their experiences relating to moods, behavior, and skills. Using checklists they maintain, they review emotional experiences and positive practices they engage in. The diaries help individuals discern what led up to a specific problem encountered, this is followed by discussion of the consequences of their actions. In addition, individuals may meet in class-like small groups to learn skills such as mindfulness, emotion regulation and distress tolerance.

How long does DBT last?

Because it is intended to establish long-lasting behavioral change among those with persistent problems, DBT is designed to last six months to a year. DBT includes both weekly sessions of individual therapy and weekly skills-training sessions conducted in small groups. Studies of DBT have documented improvement within a year of treatment, particularly in controlling self-harmful behavior; nevertheless, individuals may require therapy for several years.
