Studies have shown that the most important component of successful therapy is the relationship between therapist and client.
I believe that we all have an instinct toward growth and healing, and my experience with clients continues to affirm that with good support, everyone has the innate capacity to change. I trust and respect clients by bringing my genuine curiosity, deep sense of acceptance, and keen intuition to what they share with me. Troubling events and traumas happen to all of us, but as we explore old beliefs and process through difficult emotions, it is possible to alter those ingrained habits that prevent growth, and move into a more free experience of yourself. I have an open, relaxed, interactive style based on a holistic perspective.

Finding a therapist, especially during periods of stress, can be extremely overwhelming. Yet, the connection, the solutions, and the relief that you can access in therapy is priceless. If you’re feeling stuck and don’t know which direction to go in, or if you’re searching for ways to save your relationship, I may be the right fit for you! I have spent the last five years as a trauma therapist for the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs, providing thousands of hours of psychotherapy.

With unconditional compassion, a conversational style, and a bit of humor, our therapeutic relationship will model the secure attachment you will learn to build with yourself and others.
I started my own therapeutic journey when I realized the way I had always done things was not working for me anymore, and I needed some assistance in finding a different path. So often the coping mechanisms that kept us safe in our childhoods keep us from experiencing self-acceptance and the deep and meaningful connections we long to have as adults. Whether you are exhausted by your own people pleasing, mired in self-criticism, or struggling in your relationships, you deserve a place to gain insight into how your patterns have formed and what changes can be made to live a more fulfilling life.

Feeling stuck? Life can be hard sometimes. I offer EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing), a psychotherapy that, unlike traditional talk-therapy, enables people to heal from the symptoms and emotional distress that are the result of disturbing life experiences. As an EMDR trained therapist, I provide EMDR therapy to all ages to address stuck memories and help to reorganize past thoughts, feelings and memories that are related to a traumatic event that can oftentimes keep us hooked or stuck from moving forward in work & relationships, preventing us living our best lives. Couples come to therapy often feeling frustrated, defensive, hurt and angry. Love, attraction and shared life goals may have brought them together, but along the way to deeper emotional intimacy couples meet roadblocks. Growing self-awareness and curiosity about their partner helps them appreciate their differences as enriching rather than threatening. Partners realize that each of them has a role in cultivating the quality of their relationship. Partners learn to support each other's growth and expand their horizons together. Their relationship feels more alive and hopeful. Therapy nurtures the art of relationships for all of us.

Three beliefs I hold that influence how I practice are 1) human beings are not problems to be solved 2) therapy is ultimately about relationship 3) the process itself is the solution. We humans are infinitely complex; we're full of opposition and paradox. Our culture pushes quick fixes and immediate answers, but lasting change rarely comes about when we work in this way. I'm interested in helping you come into fuller, richer, more conscious relationship with all of your moving and sometimes disparate parts. Together we will work from the inside out through a deep, relational process.

I treat individuals and couples, often using a systems perspective to address individual stresses and relational conflicts.
I use an integrative approach to counseling and psychotherapy to help meet the individual needs of each client. I understand that a strong therapeutic relationship, including a foundation of trust, is essential to the therapeutic process. Learning about my client and understanding the presenting issue(s), we work collaboratively to identify goals for therapy. A Treatment Plan, tailored to each client, involves a combination of cognitive, affective, behavioral, and somatic techniques. I draw from a variety of methodologies and techniques to incorporate what is most helpful in resolving current and long-standing issues.

I have experience working with couples/relationships, individuals, anxiety, depression, identity exploration, trauma, neurodivergence, and the LGBTQIA+ community.
My approach to therapy is based on the belief that every person has the strength and resilience within them to overcome challenges and create change in their lives. By exploring the stories we tell ourselves and others about our experiences, we can gain a deeper understanding of ourselves and our relationships. Through this process we can create new narratives that empower us to live more fulfilling lives.

My number one goal is to partner with you.
Grief, trauma, insecurities, anxiety and depression do not discriminate. You are not alone. If you find it difficult to move beyond it and you feel stuck, this is normal. Our body keeps score and remembers. This is why I integrate techniques that connect the mind and body. It is important to release stored up tension and stress, as well as addressing our core beliefs about our experiences. While creating coping mechanisms is important I will also help you discover root causes and address obstacles in a holistic manner.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
