We work with women in their 20s, 30s, & 40s, dealing with anxiety, relationship uncertainty, & life transitions.
Do you constantly feel on edge, overwhelmed or anticipate future events with worry and dread? Do racing, ruminating thoughts impact your ability to concentrate on tasks, manage stress or engage socially? Living with anxiety can be a distressing, frustrating and sometimes frightening experience. You may be preoccupied by "what if" questions about the future that you can't control, causing your thoughts to spiral and fuel more distressing emotions and physical symptoms. The ongoing, looping cycle of anxiety can impact all aspects of your life, including work performance and your relationships.

Using our therapeutic relationship, we'll explore how these experiences have impacted ways of being and highlight internal conflicts that contribute to struggles.
From early on and throughout our lives the relationships we form with family, friends and those around us can have a deep impact on how we see the world, the values we choose to hold dear, and how we see ourselves. Unfortunately, when these relationships are negative they can have a lasting impact on these same aspects of living. This may lead to continued struggles in day-to-day living. These same relationships and their impacts can be subtle and hard to describe. Fortunately, therapy can act as a way to identify these patterns in our past and current relationships and explore the impact they have had on our current struggles.

The relationship, connection, and trust between a client and therapist is the true measure of how helpful the counseling experience will be for an individual. In order to build that type of connection I approach each individual with an open-minded, supportive, and empathic style. I provide a counseling experience that allows a person to heal and grow in ways that allows them to recognize their own strengths, and how those strengths can assist them in working toward a more positive and rewarding future.

No one experiences life in a vacuum. This is why I am so passionate about incorporating all of the various relationships, experiences, and cultural dimensions that make you who you are, into our work together. My job is to learn about each individual, partner, or family member, to understand their challenges and help them find strength and motivation towards change. Whether I am working with couples, families, or individuals, it is important for our work to consider the multiple larger systems that impact your life. Just as the networks we are a part of inevitably affect us, we too send ripples out to others.

Couples Counseling Therapists

Does couples counseling work?

Research shows that couples counseling is effective; it can reduce relationship distress and improve emotional awareness, communication, empathy, intimacy, and overall relationship satisfaction. For example, emotionally focused therapy was found to be effective for about 75 percent of couples, and those benefits lasted at least two years.

When should a couple seek counseling?

Couples can benefit from counseling if they consistently struggle in their relationship. They may have lost the ability to communicate effectively, become entrenched in harmful patterns, begun to fight more than usual, broken the other’s trust, suffered from a mental or physical illness, or faced any number of other challenges. Many therapists offer free consultations, so if a couple isn’t sure whether therapy is necessary, asking directly can provide clarity.

How can I get my partner to go to couples therapy?

The decision to seek couples therapy is often driven by one partner, who then convinces the other to participate. When discussing the idea, the initiator should be direct and assertive. They can state the problems they see and explain how the relationship would benefit from therapy. In more serious cases, they can also explain how their relationship may suffer without making any changes or seeking professional help.

How does a couple prepare for couples counseling?

The anticipation of beginning couples counseling can be difficult—sometimes more difficult than the first session itself. Taking a few moments to reflect can allay those concerns: What are the current challenges? When and how did they begin? What do they want the relationship to look like in the future? Reflecting on these questions can help individuals or couples articulate their goals. Of course, the therapist will also ask questions and guide couples through the process.
