Stepping out to ask for help can be incredibly intimidating and uncomfortable. I know how hard it is to ask for help, but the simple fact that you are looking for help makes you a step closer to healing than you were yesterday. Effective therapy is one that is based on a strong therapeutic relationship built on a mutual goal of healthy living. When emotions become overwhelming, we will work together to overcome struggles. You will never have to go through it alone. Whatever the obstacle ahead of us, as your counselor I will be right by your side every step of the way matching you step for step.

What is self actualization? Maslow would say it is the process of becoming “everything you are capable of becoming.” One of the most exciting and painful journeys we face is truly understanding who we are and who we can become. One of my biggest passions in practice is empowering people as they take this journey. With neurodiversity, many people have found this process stressful and even traumatic. In reality, what they are capable of is often truly remarkable when they learn to embrace it. I have found so much joy in watching clients find relief, empathy for themselves, and excitement when they learn to understand themselves.

Together, we can find that light at the end of the tunnel. Remember, "We all have two lives. The second begins when you realize you only have one." -Tom Hiddleston Also, if you are interested, view my website for Premarital / New Relationship Counseling information.

This is not how I wanted things to be! I wish things were different! Thoughts like this run through your mind, and you are unsure what to do next. You have dreams and plans, things are not turning out, or you keep getting in your way. Do you feel like there are answers out there, and you have been unable to access them? Do you sometimes wish you could talk to someone who can give you an outside perspective?

My name is Denniese Dysart and my goal is to provide a casual and welcoming atmosphere while assisting you to find your own path in personal discovery and wellness. On this course I will help you identify and cope more effectively with problems in daily living and to deal with inner conflicts which may disrupt your ability to function effectively. A very important aspect of counseling is the relationship that builds between the client and the counselor. This may be the only time and place where you can take front and center stage, be actually “heard”, and be in the presence of someone who is non-judgmental.

My name is Felicia Typaldos and I am a provisionally licensed professional counselor here at Counseling Group of the Ozarks. In my free time I enjoy playing with my two cats, watching anime, reading books, and learning. I like learning so much that I graduated from Missouri State University twice. Once for my bachelors in psychology and once for my Masters in clinical mental health counseling. My path to being a counselor began with personal tragedy involving the sudden death of a loved one. I went to therapy and it was an immense help while I tried to hold myself together.

You forgot where you put your keys for the umpteenth time, and now you're late for work. Double-booked yourself.... again. Wondering about ADHD? What about dementia? Are you a concerned parent, child, or friend? Will this get worse? Can this get better? Or is this all normal?

What a Stressful world we are living in today! Sometimes life can feel overwhelming. In a society that values hard work over mental health, it can be difficult to carve out time for yourself. As challenging as it is, you deserve to find balance and peace in your life. There is a way to find happiness again and to improve relationships with the ones you love. It is my passion to teach self-love, acceptance, relaxation techniques, and empowerment to women, couples, and families. With this in mind, we will uncover root causes of suffering and work towards healing and solutions.

I'm not your typical counselor... You won't find me busy looking at my notes and only paying attention half the time you're talking. My style is very conversational and I'll share about myself any time it's pertinent, or when asked. I don't believe in dragging counseling out because it's expensive so why waste your time and money? You've got a problem so let's get to fixing it! The bottom line is your quality of life: it's not where you want/need it to be, and it's my job to help you improve it. My primary office is in Springfield, MO with a secondary location in Chesterfield, MO a few days a week.

It takes courage to be vulnerable enough to ask for help. You've already taken your first steps towards growth simply by identifying that something feels wrong and looking for a solution. My main focus as a counselor is to help my clients understand themselves, as well as their thoughts, feelings, and behaviors. In this understanding can come acceptance, change, and healing.

Many of my clients enter therapy to address the feeling of groundlessness that can occur when things fall apart. It may be an episode of significant depression or anxiety, unresolved trauma, a life changing loss such as divorce or death, or a crisis of awakening and challenging previously held understandings of the self in the world. There are many paths that take us into therapy, and I walk that path with my clients to develop a better understanding and integration to adapt to life when we find ourselves at these challenging points.

Is everyone in the Psychology Today Therapy Directory a licensed therapist?
The Psychology Today directory lists providers who offer legitimate mental health services to the public, including psychologists, psychiatrists, social workers, and counselors.
Many have been licensed by the country or state where they practice; providers whose license or primary credential has been verified by Psychology Today are signified by a “Verified” symbol. Some clinicians or organizations provide services for which their state or country does not offer licenses, such as pastoral counseling. They may be selectively included without the “Verified” seal.

What’s the difference between a psychologist, a therapist, and a counselor?
Therapists, psychologists, and counselors are all licensed mental health professionals. In the US, psychologists have earned a doctoral degree. The terms “therapist” and “counselor” are used somewhat interchangeably, but generally therapists offer longer-term, mental health care, while counselors offer shorter-term care that may focus on one domain, such as marriage, career, or academic challenges.
Clients should consider factors such as insurance coverage and their primary reason(s) for seeking therapy to determine the type of professional best suited to their needs. Someone struggling with mental health challenges such as depression or anxiety, for example, may wish to seek out a clinical psychologist or therapist, while someone navigating career obstacles or marital upheaval may benefit from seeing a counselor who can offer short-term, targeted support.

What type of therapy is right for me?
The type of therapy best suited to a particular individual depends on several factors, including their primary reason for seeking therapy, their preferred timeline (some therapy types last for a set number of sessions, while others are open-ended), and their personality and preferences—some may prefer a more structured approach. For many individuals, multiple types of therapy could provide a good fit.
How much does therapy cost?
The cost of therapy depends on a number of variables, including location and the therapist’s experience and training. On average, a therapy session in the United States could cost between $100 and $200 or more. If you have insurance, the expense of mental health care is typically lower, but it varies based on your insurance plan details and whether you choose an in-network or out-of-network mental healthcare provider.
What are more affordable or low cost therapy solutions?
Many therapists offer sliding scale payments, usually on a limited number of slots, which consists in an agreement between the therapist and a client to pay a reduced rate. Therapists who provide such arrangements often consider the client's income or ability to pay, but the extent of the discount is ultimately at the therapist's discretion. Furthermore, while group therapy may have different goals and benefits compared to individual therapy, it can be a more affordable solution to address certain types of issues.
Is online therapy cheaper than in-person therapy?
Many therapists charge the same amount for online therapy as they do for in-person therapy—though clients may still find this cost-effective if it cuts down on their transportation costs. Health insurance plans often offer equivalent coverage for online and in-person therapy; indeed, in many places, they are legally required to do so. Text-based or on-demand therapy apps may be cheaper than traditional one-on-one psychotherapy; however, the practice may be less effective and is not likely to be covered by insurance.
Is online therapy a good option?
Therapy conducted online can be just as effective as in-person therapy, as long as there is a strong alliance between the client and the therapist. To find a therapist who provides telehealth services to clients in your area, click “Online Therapy” on the directory homepage and search by your city or town or your zip code.
Are therapy sessions confidential?
Confidentiality is a crucial part of the therapeutic relationship. Therapists in the United States are bound by the regulations set out by the Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA), which aims to protect sensitive health information. With very few exceptions, a therapist will only discuss their client with others when the client has given their written permission. The instances in which a therapist would be required to disclose personal information are: if a client poses a danger to themselves or others, if the therapist suspects the abuse of a child or an elderly or otherwise dependent adult, or if they are legally forced to by court order. These exceptions to the confidentiality agreement are usually discussed with a client before their first session.
