I understand the profound impact addiction has not only on the addict, but also on his family.
You're using drugs/alcohol too much, and you can't stop. You are lost, miserable and scared, and you want to be found. I offer a compassionate, supportive and direct approach to help you meet your needs and achieve your goals. You're ready to explore your underlying, and probably ancient, beliefs that you hold about yourself and that fuel chronic negative thoughts and behaviors. We will work together to rediscover your authentic self, that person who was somehow left behind and is waiting for you to come back. I provide an eclectic approach. You receive a personal assessment, then focused treatment that best fits you.

If you are suffering with fear, sadness, confusion, loneliness, anger, or other difficult emotions, perhaps I can help. These feelings generally come and go for all of us, but if they come and don't go, then this can be a problem. Maybe this is what brought you here, and you've already tried various things to feel better, but haven't gotten very far. Life can be difficult and perplexing, and wading through the sludge of painful emotions and troublesome thoughts and behaviors on your own can be frustrating and overwhelming.

Opening up around the vulnerable and intimate details of our lives can be very uncomfortable. There is so much pressure to be “happy”, “better”, or “perfect”, while receiving messaging that being anything else is unacceptable. We are very adaptive yet often struggle to effectively get our needs met, so may engage in avoidance behaviors and withhold or internalize our feelings to try to prevent things from getting worse. You want to feel more like your true self and get more satisfaction out of your relationships. You need an unconditionally supportive, non-judgmental, creative, and humorous therapist who accepts you however you are.

The most important questions is: "What pain brought you here? What is the hardest issue for you to deal with?" The most important result of the first session is that you walk out feeling that I understand you and will be able to be your ally in working through your issues. In other words we need to like each other and you need to feel that I have the expertise to handle your problems and not judge you.

Finding a therapist can be overwhelming. Perhaps you’ve tried other therapists who didn’t meet your needs or they weren’t a good fit? This can feel discouraging, but know that you are courageous for taking the first steps towards improving your mental wellbeing. It’s not easy to recognize that you are struggling. It’s okay to feel like you need more support to process everything going on in your life. Whether it’s life challenges and transitions, coming to terms with your identity, or concerns about your personal, familial, or professional relationships, I am here to assist and guide you through this process.

My style integrates humanistic, mindfulness and problem solving. We all have the ability to heal from anything life throws our way and I'm here to assist in uncovering your healing potential. You worked up the courage to have "the talk" with your partner about opening your relationship, and you weren't sure how to do that. You wanted to spice things up and have some fun, and in the excitement of this new relationship, you didn't really understand what you were getting yourself into. Now that you're open, things are not as exciting as you hoped. You’re getting upset, having more arguments, feeling jealous, or are filled with fear and anxiety that this will ruin your relationship, maybe even end it. This was supposed to be fun but only made things even harder. Something has to change.

Hi, my name is James "Jim" Husen. I am a Psychologist. My approach to therapy is to first do no harm, then help the client with his/her symptoms and figure out the root or source of those problems and help the client with that too- give a person a fish, the family eats for a day, teach a person to fish, the family eats for a lifetime and beyond when the children are taught to fish as well.

My name is Alexander Warnow and I'm the founder of XY Counseling. At XY we work primarily with adults, teens, and couples helping them to live more fulfilling, connected lives. Often what brings someone to seek therapy is a chronic issue that has reached a crisis point: anger, depression, anxiety, self-worth, intimacy problems, communication issues and many more. Sometimes it is a recent change in one's life: infidelity, a move, or the end of a relationship. Taking the risk to ask for help is the first step on the road towards healing and growth. Our therapists include Jacob Donnelly, Stacey Klein and Walker Witte.

It would be my honor to come along side of you, your loved one, or your family as you navigate this difficult terrain.
I believe substance use to be a symptom and not the root issue, but without first addressing and treating addiction we will not be able to intervene the underlying issues. There is an array of individuals and families that I enjoy working with. Teens, young adults and their families, adults and or partners/spouses who need support around their loved ones addiction and also with parents whos children are struggling with addiction. My approach to treatment is trauma and attachment informed because I believe that most addiction is driven by trauma and a lack of a healthy relationship with ones self.

I enjoy working with individuals, couples, and families. I can help with career challenges due to burnout, job stress, manager-employee conflicts, or feelings of stagnation. I can help with personal challenges in partner or family relationships, the loss of loved ones, the impact of recent or past traumatic events, or transitioning into retirement. I am always amazed at the untapped strength and resiliency people have once their truth and meaning are clear. Sometimes we need a little support and guidance. I would love to help with that journey.

Family Therapy

What do family therapists do?

A family therapist facilitates the process of understanding and improving how a family functions. The therapist will help family members develop empathy for one another. They’ll seek to understand existing patterns, misunderstandings, and conflicts that arise, in order to help the family arrive at a realistic, unified understanding and develop the coping skills they need to build stronger relationships.

How long does therapy for families take to work?

Therapy manifests differently in every family; a common time frame is 12 weekly sessions, but some families may see improvement after just a few weeks. Families should discuss their goals with the therapist at the beginning of the process and periodically revisit those goals to assess their progress together.

How can you encourage a family member to attend family therapy?

You can encourage family members to attend therapy by expressing with both love and concern the challenges you see and explaining how a therapist could help the family navigate those challenges together. An outside perspective can help everyone feel heard, get on the same page, and develop new skills. If family members are still hesitant, it may be helpful to emphasize that family therapy is short-term—it won’t last forever.

Is therapy for families effective?

Family therapy can significantly improve family dynamics and relationships. Research suggests that family therapy can help individuals understand their role in the family, communicate and solve problems together, reduce conflict and draw boundaries when necessary, and develop coping skills for stressors, major life changes, and mental or physical illnesses within the family.
