I have special training and experience working with trauma and with grieving children and teens, and I am trained in Trauma & Grief Component Therapy (TGCT) for adolescents.
A meaningful therapeutic relationship can be a nurturing and generative environment for growth and empowerment. In an accepting and loving space, hopes, fears, anxiety, depression, and trauma can be safely explored and harnessed as agents of change. I am passionate about the possibilities for healing and radical self-acceptance within each unique client and therapist relationship. Our work together will be collaborative, containing, and non-judgmental, exploring the past and present, as well as hopes for the future. I work from a place of warmth, curiosity, humor, and deep reverence for your unique life experience.

People often seek therapy because something in their life is causing them pain and discomfort. I often work with individuals who "from the outside" look like they "have it all together", but on the inside, feel like they are falling apart. When you give yourself permission to ask for help to explore your feelings, thoughts and behaviors, you create more room for yourself. You don't have to hold everything so tightly. I specialize in working with grief and loss, anxiety, the inner critic, relationship issues, and parenting challenges.

My experience with overcoming adversity, loss, and trauma makes me singularly attuned to the suffering of others.
Serenity, Equanimity, Peace of Mind. Are these qualities sorely missing from your life? You are not alone. Most Westerners experience rushed living, lack of acceptance, anxious and depressed mood - what inevitably amounts to suffering. While pain is a universal experience, with practice suffering can become optional. But lack of skill, low motivation, and general haggardness of life prevent many from consistent self-care which can alleviate suffering. If this is your story, The Serenity Center was opened with you in mind. Reducing suffering to manageable levels is an achievable goal - and all you may need is a skillful guide.

I work with adults navigating their way through trauma, relational issues, depression, grief, and the seemingly endless joys, sorrows, and complexities of our modern world. Life is often, despite our best efforts, relentlessly hard. The world buzzes with relentless motion and change, oppressive systems often feel fixed and difficult to budge, and working towards healing and growth can feel daunting if not sometimes impossible. I show up compassionately as my full self in hopes you will feel comfortable doing the same! For me that means approaching with warmth, empathy, humor when appropriate, and talking to you like a real person.

I enjoy working with both couples and individuals who are grappling with a variety of life challenges; life changes, including health issues, career goals, trauma, loss, anxiety or mood disorders.
If we have learned anything from the pandemic, it is that we all need and thrive in relationships. Therapy is an important tool for developing and nurturing positive relationships, both with others and with yourself. Using my training as a marriage and family therapist, my life experiences and love of people, I foster a safe, warm, non-judgmental environment. I believe that it is not the challenges or traumas that form us, but how we respond to them. Collaboratively we can build resiliency as we discover and heal the obstacles that interfere with you having a deeper, more meaningful life.

If you're experiencing anxiety, be it in social situations, about existential fears like the climate, or generally in various facets of your life, let's manage it together. Being human is messy and hard, and all too often, you can feel alone in facing your suffering. You feel isolated, cut off, like nobody else gets what you're going through–whether that be grief, depression, systemic oppression, trauma, or any other human affliction. While the original experiences were hard, your sense of aloneness makes them worse; they stick with you and shape the way you interact with the world, like tightly-wound knots that never get a chance to loosen.

I work with adults and couples who are experiencing loneliness, depression, anxiety, loss, grief, life transitions, new parenthood, and/or who would like to process current or past trauma.
I strongly believe in the healing power of a safe therapeutic space and human connection to build resilience and foster a more fulfilling life. I strive to co-create a safe space that is warm, collaborative, and empathic so that, together, we can process and integrate past or current traumatic or disruptive experiences, and explore questions of identity, self-concept, and interpersonal relationships. My client-centered, trauma-informed, and integrative approach lends itself to meeting my clients where they are at and walking alongside you as you uncover the strengths and tools within to face life’s challenges.

I have experience working with diverse communities and a range of issues including anxiety, depression, trauma, and grief and loss.
I know what it’s like to struggle, to be unsure of yourself and your relationships, to feel stuck. I believe therapy is an act of courage and hope, and I applaud anyone considering this form of self-support. My goal is to help you learn how to better help yourself, and I’ve been humbled by the strength I’ve seen in my clients. In our work, I'll position myself as a relational therapist, meaning we'll use our relationship to better understand how you view yourself and others, and we’ll collaborate to modify any beliefs, patterns of behavior, or ways of relating that get in the way of your living more of the life you want.

Many clients come to me depressed, grief stricken, or at a loss for where to proceed in their lives. Faulty thinking can block the ability to realize new options for thoughts and behaviors. Training, wisdom, and life experiences allow me to help guide my clients to their best therapeutic path, to personalize treatment, and to help them find their purpose. I work with trauma survivors, people with disabilities, life transitions, crises, hospice care, death, and chronic anxiety. I'm also trained to support artists through their creative struggles. That process provides them the foundation to strengthen them for any future challenges.

Grief Therapists

How long does therapy take for grief?

There is no exact timeline for grief counseling. Some people may start to feel better after just a few sessions, while others may take months or longer to feel relief. Some specific approaches, including some types of CBT, may involve a set number of sessions, or therapy may be open-ended until the patient determines they are ready to wrap up. Just as there is no right or wrong way to grieve, there is no right or wrong way to seek therapy for grief.

When should you seek therapy for grief?

Many people mistakenly believe that their grief needs to be debilitating or all-encompassing to warrant therapy. This is not the case. While people who experience severe, prolonged grief—particularly those who are considering self-harm or engaging in unhealthy substance use—are especially likely to benefit from therapy, so too are people whose grief is less intense but still interfering with well-being or daily functioning. In practice, almost anyone struggling to process a loss could benefit from grief counseling.

Can grief be managed without therapy?

Oftentimes, yes. Grief is a near-universal part of being human, and many find that their grief, while profound, does not stop them from participating in day-to-day life and steadily eases over time without outside help. For others, however, the harsh pain of early grief persists for months or years or leaves them unable to function. This group is especially likely to benefit from seeing a therapist, who can guide them through their grief and help them reconnect with the world.

What happens if grief is left untreated?

Because grief does not in itself necessitate therapy, untreated grief will often resolve on its own. However, for some people—particularly those who would qualify for a diagnosis of prolonged grief disorder—untreated grief can be a source of seemingly endless pain or lead them to withdraw from the world. In such cases, treatment can be indispensable, as it can help an individual adapt to the loss and start living again.
