“The greatest compliment that was ever paid me was when someone asked me what I thought, and attended to my answer.” - Henry David Thoreau. A strong belief of mine is the power of connection and healthy relationships. To sit with someone with unconditional acceptance and positive regard is something I hold dear and bring with me to my practice. Everyone deserves to be seen and valued.

Who am I, and what truly makes me happy? Is this a question you’ve been asking yourself or a question you don’t have the answer to. I specialize in working with women in transition; transitions into or out of caretaking children, in and out of work positions and retirement, or changes in relationships. As women we are brilliant at becoming who we need to be to manage situations. We are shapeshifter and can go from nursing a baby, to CEO within the same hour. The women I work with have lost a sense of self, they’ve disconnected from their internal compass.

Therapy is self-care, self-care is not selfish! Accessing support when you feel "stuck" is adaptive. It's ok to ask for support! My therapeutic practice is to utilize EMDR techniques to reprocess difficult memories that keep the mind racing, leaving you feeling overwhelmed and stuck. Together we can work to rewire negative neurological pathways to create more flexible, resilient and empowered thought process. Anxiety, depression, and addictions can be several symptoms of trauma stored in the body.

You are struggling. Your life isn't what you want it to be. We can help! We specialize in anxiety, depression, couples issues, addictions, sleep problems, concussion, ADD, and trauma. We are friendly and goal-oriented. I have 20 years experience working with adults, teens, and children. And, if you wish, we can also integrate neurofeedback training into our work together. Neurofeedback uses the EEG (which neurologists also use) to teach you to change brainwave patterns that keep you from being your best. I studied Neurofeedback at San Francisco State University, and am Board Certified in Biofeedback.

My clients are people of all ages who find themselves ready to move into a way of being and relating that they know in their hearts is possible. Experience has shown me that a trusted relationship is medicine that catalyzes our ability to meet our pain, question our beliefs, refine our visions, celebrate our joy—all of which are part of becoming ourselves. Within many frames of psychology, I have seen how easy it can be to become locked into identity structures that reinforce limitation. Energy wants to move. Experiences want to be known. Visions want to be honed. These intensifying days call to us whispering- time to transform.

Self-Harming Therapists

How does therapy for self-harm work?

A person may turn to self-injury so that they can distract themselves from their stress, depression, anxiety, or upsetting circumstances. Therapy can address the cause of an individual’s suffering. A therapist can help a person understand why they may want to self-harm and help the person learn new methods of coping. A person may have poor emotion regulation, and treatment such as cognitive behavioral therapy (CBT) is helpful for breaking this behaviour. In addition, treatment such as dialectical behavior therapy can help a person manage their tolerance of distress.

Which therapies are best for self-harm?

Specific approaches used by professionals include cognitive behavioral, dialectical behavior, psychodynamic, and mentalisation-based therapies, among others. Cognitive behavioral and dialectical behavior therapies are common approaches for people who have painful thoughts and past traumas. These therapies help an individual cope with distress, regulate emotions, and manage impulsive urges.

Does the tendency to self-harm mean the person is suicidal?

Having this urge does not mean the individual suffers from suicidal ideation. People who want to self-injure look to distract or alleviate themselves from the pain they are experiencing. People with suicidal tendencies want to end life altogether. However, this does not mean a person with the intent to self-harm will not attempt suicide.

How often and how long are therapy sessions for self-harm?

As with any type of therapy, sessions depend on the individual. Clients may see improvement within 20 sessions, at an average of 50 minutes per session, while others may opt for 20 to 30 sessions over, maybe, a six-month period. People, especially those with co-occurring conditions like depression and anxiety, may need to continue therapy for up to 12 to 18 months.
