There's Instagram motherhood... and then there's reality. When people ask how you're doing, do you choke back the pain and force a smile? Pretend like everything is great when it's not? Maybe you're actually feeling depressed, anxious, or irritable. Or you're having scary and intrusive thoughts. Maybe you've had a traumatic birth, are having difficulty adjusting to parenthood or bonding with your baby, or are experiencing loss and grief. If you feel alone and unsupported in navigating the challenges of pregnancy, postpartum, and parenting, then I want you to know it doesn't have to be that way! With help, this will get better.

I'm glad that you're here seeking help. No worries if this is your first-time seeking counseling, I am very non-threatening. I will do my best to answer all of your questions and like to include humor in sessions when appropriate. My goal is to help you to feel safe so that you can explore areas of stress and hurt without feeling overwhelmed. My passion is helping clients learn why they feel disconnected, alone, or afraid. Once clients learn what's been holding them back and then heal, they seem to flourish. They also learn and practice skills for coping with the feelings that sweep over them at times.

Waitlist for new clients
Hi, my name is Breanna. I graduated from Sam Houston State University in 2020 with my Masters in Counseling. I started my work as a therapist with high-risk clients through non-profit and agency work. From there, I moved to private practice where I have thoroughly enjoyed working with a diverse client caseload. I work with all age ranges, as well as with couples and families experiencing all of the stress that life likes to throw at us. Many of my clients end up choosing to bring in friends and family members for support. Whatever your needs may be, we will figure it out together.

Patient(s) say, "I am very easy to talk to”. Young patient(s) tell me “I am friendly”. Male patient(s) say, “I’m very helpful and direct”. Female patient(s) say, “life has gotten better since attending counseling”. Humbling to say the least. I take pride in focusing on you and your needs. It’s important to me to make your sessions realistic, doable, interesting, fun, and inviting. No matter the struggles or needs you don't have to do life alone. The best way to reach me is by calling, please leave a short message if I don’t answer. I may be in session. In addition, please send me your e-mail for forms and documents.

Attachment-based Therapists

Is attachment-based therapy the same as attachment therapy?

Attachment-based therapy may be confused with what is called “attachment therapy” (sometimes called “holding therapy”), a discredited and dangerous approach to treating children with attachment disorders, autism, or other mental health concerns. Attachment therapy—not attachment-based therapy—may involve restraining a child, forcing eye contact, and other coercive or abusive techniques. None of these practices are used in attachment-based therapy and the two modalities are in no way related.

What should I expect from attachment-based therapy?

Attachment-based therapy is based on attachment theory, which posits that children’s early relationships with their caregivers strongly influence their ability to navigate the world later in life. Thus, adults who seek attachment-based therapy should expect to deeply explore their childhood, identifying the dynamics or experiences that disrupted their attachment and the steps necessary to overcome challenges that arose as a result. Parents and children should expect to explore the possible factors that disrupted the parent-child relationship and work toward restoring trust and connection.

How long does attachment-based therapy last?

Certain forms of attachment-based therapy, especially those designed for parents and children, last for a set number of sessions; for example, Attachment and Biobehavioral Catch-Up, a specific attachment-based approach for young children who have undergone early adversity, unfolds over 10 one-hour sessions. When attachment-based therapy is practiced on adults or combined with other modalities, it may not last a specific length of time; clients may wish to ask prospective therapists how long they expect treatment to take.

Does attachment-based therapy work?

Most of the research on attachment-based therapy focuses on children and adolescents. Some of this research shows a positive effect, especially for attachment-based family therapy (ABFT). Other studies, however, have found that attachment-based therapy is no more effective than other approaches to childhood depression, anxiety, or suicidality. Less is known about the therapy’s efficacy on adult populations.
