Deciding to seek therapy can be a daunting task and I believe that having a safe space to process your unique experiences is the key to reducing the anxiety that can accompany starting therapy, and promote personal growth and healing. I believe therapy should be a collaborative experience and we should work together to achieve your personal goals.

I specialize in a number of clinical areas such as various forms of trauma, men’s issues, personality disorders, mood disorders, anxiety, and relationship challenges.
My therapeutic style is welcoming, grounding, and curious. I aim for therapy to be a collaborative space for authentic exploration, which I approach from a open and curious stance. I believe my clients are the experts of their own experiences, and it is my honor and duty to use my knowledge to assist my clients in unfolding, understanding, integrating, and blossoming into their authentic, functional self. To assist my clients in this process, I often utilize personalized metaphor, analogy, reflection, and humor to both support and challenge each client. Often, my therapy style is described as relieving, exciting, and insightful.

New Paradigm takes a holistic approach to DUI Services with our clients. We start with knowing a few fundamental qualities about every person that walks through our doors. Foremost, we respect you because we know everybody makes mistakes. You make the best choice at any given moment based on your knowledge and experiences. You have created your life through the daily choices you make so you have everything you need to create your life in any way you would like. Our job is to provide you with new information and experiences. Now you can make the choices that lead to the life you want. We strive to do this with the highest integrity in the business. The answer to the second most asked question at New Paradigm is, What is a paradigm? Paradigm is another word for model, pattern, standard, archetype, etc. We chose paradigm to convey, “we do it differently.” As a bonus, successful clients come out with new methods/paradigms, for handling their old habits that led to their DUI/DWAI.

When you imagine a time when you felt at your best, what comes to mind for you? Perhaps, a time when you stood up for something important to you? Or, a time when you felt synchrony between your mind, your body, and your heart? Maybe you've experienced lots of moments when you felt like you could engage with the world in a meaningful way, and during that time you - just for a moment - lost track of the 'stuff' you usually carry along with you? Changes are, these experiences in your life are not entirely due to chance or circumstance... but rather, due to your mindset, your habits, and your relationships.

Anxiety Therapists

What are the most common treatments for anxiety?

Talk therapy, particularly cognitive behavioral therapy, is the most common treatment for anxiety. Studies have shown it is equally effective as medication. Other popular forms of therapy are popular, depending on a patient’s experience. Exposure therapy, for instance, can be useful for people dealing with fears and phobias, or who have experienced traumatic events. Dialectical Behavioral Therapy may be useful for patients who need help with emotion regulation. Anxiolytic medications, like benzodiazepines, can also help with calming a person enough to focus on the skills they’ve learned, and physical exercise has been shown to help symptoms of anxiety across the board.

How long does therapy for anxiety take to work?

The amount of time needed to alleviate symptoms depends on the severity of a person’s condition. Some therapies may take 5-20 weekly sessions to show results. Anti-depressant medications typically take two to four weeks before a benefit is felt. Anti-anxiety medications are felt typically within 20-30 minutes. Medications are best used to offer a patient a better headspace in which to work on techniques learned in therapy. Exercise, improved sleep habits, and meditation are effective, but takes weeks or months to show results.

When should I seek treatment for anxiety?

Everyone feels anxious at times, but when anxiety causes disruption to your daily life, it may be time to seek help. Such disruption can be mental, physical, or both: having fear dominate your thoughts, avoiding situations or objects that bring on feelings of anxiety, or experiencing shortness of breath, sweating, dizziness, or panic attacks. When these symptoms are recurrent and distressing, it may be time to talk to someone.

How effective is treatment for anxiety?

Treatment for anxiety has been shown to be moderately to highly effective, according to a large body of psychology studies and analyses. For some people, treatment using CBT or exposure therapy alone is effective. Others respond best to a combination of medication and therapy.
